I stayed 2 nights here and really enjoyed it. The French family managing this property gives the hotel the feeling of a country inn. There are about 10 rooms in a few buildings, most with front or side patios and many of them designed to take advantage of the postcard views over a very pretty bay. The pool was nice,... More

It's a struggle to find anything that really stands out in this place. It's certainly decent enough but is lacking something which is hard to put your finger on. We stayed only one night. We had one of the cheaper rooms and whilst clean and comfortable wasn't supplied with bath towels, even considering that the cheaper rooms are still $70... More

Let me start off with the bad part: It's about 45 minutes walk from the town. Now, for the good part: Just about everything else. The restaurant is great - excellent for dinner, especially the astonishingly tasty tenderloin with béarnaise, which I had two or three times. The breakfast, which is included, is probably the best we had on our... More

We were quickly approaching the end of our 90 day Costa Rican visa and had to leave the country for a quick stay in Nicaragua so we could return to begin another 90 day stay. We’d been to San Juan del Sur the year before and decided to return to that cute little sea-side area. From the Tripadvisor reviews we... More

This review is so hard to write because this place has SO much potential and we did have a great experience overall in San Juan del Sur. The main thing that was a disappointment is the road is so hard to travel to the hotel. Pretty much every time you want to go somewhere it is a $10 - $20... More

We stayed there for 3 nights. Some things were great and others no so. The good - By far it is the food. Great food in each meal we ate there. The fish dinner had 2 giant pieces of Mahi Mahi and they were awesome. All other meals were also very good. The rooms are nice, clean and comfortable. The... More

We spent 2 nights at El Jardin on a recent trip to Nicaragua. This lovely hotel is perched up on a hill overlooking a small bay. We were lucky enough to get a room directly opposite the main verandah, with a view of the swimming pool, the entrance and the spectacular bay. The hotel, run by a French family reminds... More

4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2015

We spent six nights of our honeymoon there over Christmas and enjoyed our time. Location - as many others have said, El Jardin is pretty far from the town (an hour or so to walk) and from the major surf beaches, so it's a bit of a trek to get there and make your way around. San Juan del Sur... More

We booked 2 a joining rooms, had French food that was gourmet, cooked and served by our hosts who were also our concierges calling cars for us and helping to plan our days, all in an hillside atmosphere with the hotel painted in the colors of Provence. Our amazing hosts also had a yacht available for fishing excursions. 15 minutes... More

El Jardin is a pleasant and spacious retreat with a gorgeous view of a lesser-traveled beach cove owned by the Nicaraguan military. I simply can’t say enough good things about the owners and the staff. They went far above and beyond anything someone could ever expect. When our car broke down, Timothy and the amazing staff (sadly didn't catch his... More
