I would never normally leave a bad review but feel I must in this instance. My friend and I stayed at the hostel in one of the bunkbeds and pretty instantly realised something was very wrong... Bedbugs! I've travelled a lot and never experienced anything like it, they were very big and in all the cracks of the wooden beds.... More

We apologize for your experience, that does sound completely unacceptable and will be fixed immediately! Bed bugs are a problem that can't be avoided in hostels, all it takes is one traveler to bring them in. If we have an incident that means a traveler likely brought them from a nearby hostel or town. The key for any good hostel... More

This hostel has a problem with bed bugs! I got eaten alive. Friends that also visited weeks apart from us had the same problem. This hostel really needs to close for a week and sort the problem out properly. With demand for good looking places to stay in SJDS it seems they are reluctant to close regardless of the bed... Pros: It's a nice hostel in the party town of SJDS. We rented a private room. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. It has a nice pool in the center, lots of seating and a bar that isn't expensive. Errol was a great staff member there, everyone else seemed very indifferent and not happy to interact with guests.... Been here four times, can't seem to get away! Has everything you'd want in a hostel; pool, hammocks, social environment, a great kitchen, and a rooftop terrace :) The staff are always excellent, and while the fun is always going on, the bar shuts down at ten so it's more than easy to get a goods night rest (Or the... Rooms were ok, pool and bar were lots of fun. Staff was very helpful. Very loud street noise. The smoothies are an excellent touch for helping to deal with a hangover. The menu however leaves much to be desired.

The staff was very knowledgable and gave great recommendations. The place itself was very fun with a large pool and bar in an even bigger lounge area. Whether you want to party or take it easy, there is something for everyone. Rooms were ok, no AC.

The Nicaraguan girls at the reception are the rudest hostel staff I've ever met (and I've stayed in quite a few hostels). We arrived a couple of hours before check-in time and were told we would get our room at 2 pm. At that time, they told us to wait 20 more minutes, and then 20 more and 20 more,... More

Thank you for your feedback, and we're sorry to hear about your issue! Unfortunately sometimes we get swamped with check-outs, so it takes the cleaning lady a little longer to prepare the rooms. Guests are always welcome to change, leave their bags in our secure storage, and go enjoy their free welcome drink at the bar! That way they don't... More

I stayed here in December and had a blast. I met so many other travellers also staying at Surfing Donkey. The dorm rooms were spacious and generally clean (they were a bit hot though). The toilets and showers were clean. The staff was super friendly. The pool was great for lounging around and having some drinks at the bar. And... More

This hostel is probably one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in. The beds are clean and comfortable, there's always a great ambiance, the kitchen is one of the best I've seen in hostels. The manager and the locals working there are super nice. The German girl with short hair in the bar I think everyone thought needs to... More

I stayed here based on a friend's recommendation - The pool was awesome and the staff were all super friendly. The drinking games were a great way to meet everyone. It was kind of annoying that the bar shut down at 10, but I understand they want to keep the place quiet. Also hoping next time they have their food... More
