Our stay at Maderas was truly authentic and awesome! We really enjoyed the communal areas, from the gorgeous open-air dining room to swinging in the second-floor hammocks. Our cabana was spacious and beautifully crafted, just like everything else on the property. The walk to the beach is great on the downhill, little bit of a pain on the uphill, but... More

I can't believe that it has been 6 months now since having my daughters wedding at Maderas Village. What a truly remarkable experience. We have approximately 50 guests come from locations all throughout the US. Getting to Nicaragua was the easy part, getting to the Village a bit tricky but all part of the experience. Maderas Village arranged transport from... More

During our Nicaraguan adventure we decided to stay at The Maderas Village for a few nights after a recommendation from a friend. Upon arrival at San Juan del Sur we were instructed to call Bennett so he could pick us up. Luckily we had found our own ride because when we called numerous times for directions (there is no signage... More

Me and a group of 10 of my best friends went to Maderas for new years eve 2013 and I am so happy we did. The whole atmosphere is incredible...here's what I enjoyed most. 1. The waves - The swell wasn't even great that week and we still had shoulder to head high surf that was a lot of fun... More

The perfect trip for someone looking to get far away from the city and off the beaten path. Realize, you will be in a jungle -- there will be a few bugs and some wildlife. But this is part of the experience if you're open to it, and will serve to get your mind off of work and onto simplicities... More

Went to Maderas with a few friends in the hopes of escaping stress from the city on a vacation that I could afford (which I 100% did). There was 5 of us so we booked the penthouse and a cabana and I really loved both. The view at the penthouse is unreal and the chic rustic vibe of the cabana... More

Maderas Village is a place I will not forget. My husband and I were convinced to go visit by a friend who had been there 2x before. It was a 2.5 hour drive from the airport and required a four wheel drive jeep to get up the unpaved dirt road. I was a little hesitant at first. Coming from Florida... More

Maderas is located in the middle of no where which is a cool idea for a stay as you are able to relax and forget about stress from back home. I really liked the idea of a yoga/surf haven but the rooms were more hostel/dorm style and it was almost impossible to sleep there as the walls are paper thin... More

Hi DB, thanks for your review. Pleased to hear that you enjoyed the service, food, yoga, surf, proximity to the beach, cleanliness, and other guests so much. Disappointed to hear that the room didn't live up to expectations and that you had to share a bathroom; next time I'd recommend booking into one of our Casitas, Cabanas, or any of... More

Beautiful place, great service and incredible surfing. Staff are very nice, but a few of the guys that work there definitely have the 'too cool for school' vibe. Other travelers who we have met in Leon and Grenada have said the same thing about the vibe of the staff during their stay. We are all in our twenties, and we... More

Thanks for taking the time to post your review. We do genuinely apologize that the tax was a surprise. We are a legitimate business that reports our revenue and is strictly governed by the Nicaraguan department of taxation and labour. Most hostels or Nicaraguan owned establishments operate on a cash-basis and do not pay tax, and thus, do not charge... More

Like some of the previous reviewers, I too was hesitant about what this experience would entail but it was nothing short of life changing. The village is like one big family. There ex-pat types that live there, locals that live and work there, regulars that seem to come back every few months and then the first time visitor like my... More
