We found it difficult to book this hotel as the phone no available on many web searches was no longer in use. Our friendly staff at the Arro Khampa in Shangri-la managed to track them down through her network and we got two suites booked at CNY1,460.- It's quite pricey for what we've got in term of quality and comfort.... First of all, it's true that it's a unique experience: sleeping in an authentic old mansion with beautiful courtyards, antique furniture and flowers. However, it is a musem which means that hordes of tourists start trooping around the buildings from an early hour (07h30?) destroying any intimacy and tranquility. Also, the rooms are pretty basic. Above all, we had to... More

It was quite a unique experience to stay in such a big old mansion which also doubles-up as a museum. Loved the beautiful courtyards and the ancient feel. The rooms are tiny and the service is nothing to shout about.

They avoid the classification of hotel by using the term in Chinese as specialty lodging and do not even have a Chinese star rating. But for the price you can do better. Just pay for the ticket price because most of the rooms are closed because they are hotel rooms, The main problem is the bathroom. Do not lift up... More

What we most enjoyed about the hotel was the numerous beautiful courtyards, the perfect location and the terraces in front of each room and mainly in front of the lobby with the little cafe. In the mild climate we spend our 2 evenings after dinner here. The rooms are tiny - it seems that there are bigger rooms we couldn't... More

An old mansion that use to belong to an Old Chinese family was transformed into a real unique facility. The building are minimally renovated & gives you a real feeling of those days. Every piece of stone, sculpture, furniture, pool, gazebo is an impressive part of the art. Don't miss the ability to stay at for few hours at day time.... More

One of the oldest buildings you can stay in, in China. Lovely courtyards, a maze of buildings and alleyways and yards, with gardens. Quaint rooms, a few staff speak a little English. Good selection of places to eat outside. Close to East Gate and Confucian temple. Wander around at night for the best photos

This hotel is absolutely charming. One of the best addresses in China for sure. Do not expect luxury there but a place full of history with a great atmosphere. The perfect place to stay in Jianshui. The location is great too nearby the pedestrian area with good local restaurants. I really enjoyed my stay and recommend this hotel for anyone... More

The reason to stay in this hotel must be the historical atmosphere. Do not expect excessive luxury. We stayed there one night as part of a tour and we definetely liked the stay and the experience. Our room was small but comfortable. No airco but a fan and the open window. Bathroom is ok. Location is perfect, right next to... More

Stayed one night. Room near the reception, quite noisy (avoid if you can). Beds very hard, even for Chinese standards; I do appreciate hard bedding, but this was too much. Unfriendly staff, very limited english. Breakfast :instant coffee, toast, butter but no jam and instant orange juice. Room was dark, but clean.
