I don't regret staying at Tara Guesthouse. It was a real tibetan experience. It was a private double room with sharing bathroom. The Tibetan-style beds were not comfortable at all and there was only one shower for all the hostel. But the staff was really helpful and the restaurant was always crowded with locals.

Tara Guest House was by far the most memorable hostel I have been during my trip through China, which took 4 weeks. It was not because of the accommodation that it was so memorable, it was because of the staff and the ambiance. Tsering ( the owner) and his colleagues were very friendly and if you showed some interest you... More

I stayed at Tara Guesthouse during a school trip to Qing Hai and Gan Su provinces. Overall it was rather disappointing. There are no rooms with private bath, as far as I know. Pluses: The lcoation is great, right across from the monastery. We had dinner at the restaurant the first night, and the food was very good. Wifi is... More

This was by far the worst hostel we stayed in China. the staff is rude, the rooms are not clean at all and so wasn't the bathroom. They blamed us for breaking down the heating, because we turned the knob.. the courtyard hasn't seen a gardner in years, which was not necesarry because it was just a concrete platform. it... More

My husband and I ate there almost every night during our stay. Our guide and driver are friends with the owner, so it was absolutely awesome to hang out there. They serve very good, traditional Tibetan food and it was just so yummy! We never stayed in the guesthouse, but I'm pretty sure it's great. And you can't beat the... More

I traveled in Tibet for one month in May/June 2012. My stay at the Tara Guesthouse was one of the best times during my travels. Tara is owned by the monasery, which is a plus in itself. The boss-man Tsering is a great, big hearted person. He arranged many travels for me in the nearby regions. THe guesthouse also has... More

The room was well-heated (unlike the sub-zero room I had nearby at Langmusi) and comfortable and clean, if a little dull but, hey, it ain't a hotel! The guy running the place (I never caught his name) went to great lengths to help me get a copy of my visa sent over and was incredibly patient, despite the police giving... More

1. rooms are shabby and lousy, and shared bath room on the 2nd floor only gets cold water (very cold) 2. hot water shower available between 6pm to 10pm only, very basic too. 3. security could be the worst thing for this hostel. we lost one cell phone in the room. Can't believe such thing happens in this pious tibetan... More

I went to Xiahe, a small town situated in a valley of Gansu Province this summer of 2005. It is prominent for the Labrang Monastery that all the Tibetans go around early as 3 AM in the mornings to late afternoon. At any time of the day, you will see a continuous flood of people turning the prayer wheels and... More
