We stayed here last night for a family event and thought the place was just lovely. In fact we liked the wallpaper so much we are getting some for our house! We had room 2 which was small and tastefully decorated. It had everything we needed - a comfortable bed with lovely smelling linen and extra pillows were provided on... More

I stayed here for 3 nights this month while my partner was in hospital. The landlady welcomed us with coffee and a chat and then showed us to a cosy warm room. The food was excellent and there was plenty of it and there was real ale as well. I was invited to sit with the regulars round the fire... More

We were staying nearby and we were advised to book as it was still in the season and got busy in the evening. So we duly did and were seated in the restaurant part, the only trouble was that we were the only ones, the others were in the pub also eating. This meant that the atmosphere was a little... More

Chose this place as thought it looked like a nice traditional English inn, and the location was good for visiting sights. Lovely building, nice bar inside. Dinner was good, the waitress was attentive and very nice, except the olives and bread starter which were some briny olives out of a jar, for over £7! Room was clean and comfortable although... We first stayed here over a year ago and were determined to come back with our dog and enjoy it as the second night of our honeymoon. As soon as we arrived in the bar, we were all made to feel so welcome and after our first drink were shown to our lovely comfy room with a beautiful vase of... More

Loved this inn and its location. Large well appointed room. Very clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant - both dinner and breakfast - was delicious. Pub was comfortable and warm and seemed to be the local gathering place. They did my washing for me for £5 which was a huge help for light packers. Better still, Andy changed... More

We spent a couple of nights there in November and were absolutely delighted. The rooms are well decorated, warm, very comfortable and quiet at night. The restaurant food is excellent with a good choice and is reasonably priced. Breakfast - plenty of choice. We were warmly welcomed by the charming young lady in the bar and nothing was any trouble.... More

We were looking for an intimate place to stay in Northumberland that is close to Hadrian's Wall, and the Red Lion was just what we were looking for. Newbrough is a picturesque village that's "off the beaten track" despite being on one of the main Roman roads to the Wall. The building is very old, but that's what we were... More

Spent one night at The Red Lion towards the end of August and was delighted with the place ! On arrival, mid afternoon went into the Bar and was warmly received by the young lady serving drinks - she was well versed in who was expected - I was part of a larger cycling group, and she proceeded to explain... Not luxurious, but very comfortable, clean, friendly and welcoming. Breakfast plentiful and included service with a smile. Would stay again as I had a great sleep in a very comfortable bed. Wifi a little intermittent and TV broke up a bit, but not a great problem. Convenient for Hexham.
