Great place to stay in Portland. Staff was helpful and cheerful. Just make sure to ask about reserving a parking space. Breakfast was on the light side. We ate across the street at Kenny and Zuke's deli for a bigger breakfast.

Clean; good mattresses; quiet AC; convenient location; reasonably priced; friendly staff; free breakfast. It also has a garage (extra $$), refrigerator, kitchen. It’s a very well maintained hotel.

We stayed only one night but I wish we stayed longer. Older building but well kept and great friendly staff. AC worked well, windows opened for fresh air, not to noisy and I'm a light sleeper. Most hotels charge for parking in Portland area but at least there's is reasonable at $18 a day. Not to mention the free breakfast... More

This was the second time we have stayed in this hotel, and both rooms were quite different. Beds are excellent, kitchen and bathrooms quite dated but clean. Location is excellent, one block from Powells Books, and easy walking distance to food carts, downtown shops and free tram lines. Good complementary breakfast, afternoon tea and wine hour included and parkade is... More

There's something to be said for chains---they're predictable but usually a bit boring in their cookie cutter sameness. So a non chain property always raises that question up front of "will it be 'right'"?--especially when it's half to two thirds the price of chain or boutique hotels nearby. We only booked one night at first, but quickly extended our stay... More

I found my 2 nights in The Mark Spencer to be great value for money. The location is great as you can walk everywhere and you are in the rather trendy area and close to the wonderful Powells Bookshop. The room is certainly nothing to write home about. Rather small and I had no view at all. BUT the staff... More

Free breakfast, afternoon coffee/tea and wine hour. I had a bright corner executive king suite on top floor with living room + kitchen and city view from two picture windows. Next to public transportation, shopping and dining options . Go to their web page and you can name your own price directly with the hotel. Parking is an additional fee,... More

We enjoyed our stay at the Mark Spencer. The bed was comfortable, the room was clean, and we even had a walk-in closet. The breakfast was good, with plenty of options. They also offer tea/cookies and wine/cheese every day, which is a nice perk. My only complaint is that the carpets in the hallway smelled... but as soon as you... More

Enjoyed our 4 night stay, reasonably priced. Small room, King bed on 2nd flr. Updated carpets, nice bed & new duvet style bedding, (no questionable bedspreads). Kitchenette & bathroom still need updating but were clean & adequate for our needs. Good breakfast choices, afternoon tea & cookies & wine in the evening. Coffee always available from lobby expresso machine. Close... More

This older hotel is quite outdated (the 70's kid of dated, not the old world charm kind). Its clean enough but they really need to do something about the smell. We stayed on the 2nd floor and it smells like a nursing home, especially in the hallways. The location is great, the staff is friendly, they have a super-cool DIY... More
