To me, iIt's the little things that matter and the more I'm charged, the more they matter. In the order they occur to me. 1) Stairwell carpeting needs to be replaced - quite a while ago. 2) TV is a little bigger than my 17" laptop. 3) Continental breakfast. Better than average BUT be prepared to pay $2 for a... more

Their hotel rooms are very cold no heat. And the room was nothing special for the price. I feel I paid way to much, stayed at a lot nicer places for the price. But I will say the front desk and library were very clean and nice. Don't know about the elevator don't feel safe. more

The Mark Spencer is a former apt building converted to a hotel. The rooms and hallways are drab in decor and the furnishing and appliances are all tired, aged. It needs some serious updating to be a real contender. i would have paid an additional 30-50/night for a bit fresher feeling and look. Oh! And there is an old air... more

this was the second time I've stayed at the Mark Spencer hotel, and for the room rate, the facilities and service is just great. As other reviewers have noted, the hotel's not new, but as it's clean and well maintained that doesn't really matter. My room had a full sized sink, fridge, cooker, cutlery and crockery, as well as a... more

This was my fourth stay at the Mark Spencer during the last 5 years and I would just like to say that they are always hospitable and accomodating. It is not a new hotel, but it is kept clean and well staffed. It is within walking distance of many downtown establishments and I love the new bed linens - very... more

We stayed at the Mark Spencer for three nights as our base to explore Portland. This location was excellent -- we walked and biked all over the place and came back to our quiet hotel room to sleep comfortably. The decor isn't new, but doesn't that make it more "green"? They offer a free continental breakfast and afternoon tea and... more

I've stayed at the Mark Spencer several times, most recently during a convention at the Oregon Convention Center, which is a short, free light rail ride away. It's quiet and comfortable with a friendly and informative staff. The only drawback is that the free WiFi connection is really slow - < 130 kbps with > 500 ms latency and frequent... more

I stayed at the Mark Spencer Hotel for 3 nights in September. This was my first trip to Portland and I had no trouble finding this place at all. I hopped on the Red Line MAX at the airport and it dropped me off right down the street from the hotel. The room was much larger than I'm used to... more

Friendly and effecient staff greeted our arrival. Great views of the area from the 6th floor room. Small bathroom, but adequate. If you stay in one of the junior suites with kitchenette, there are no paper products, so bring your own coffee filters, napkins, etc. Sponge and dish soap were provided, though, along with glassware, pots and pans and dishes... more

My wife and I stayed at The Mark Spencer in room 417 from September 27, 2009 to September 30, 2009. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay. The room was of average size with a queen-sized bed with nice linens and pillows. The bed was very comfortable. The television had a large number of channel selections, more than the usual... more
