The Mark Spencer is fantastic. The newly refurbished rooms are lovely - spacious and comfortable. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Pam suggested we changed from a suite to a room as the suites hadn't been refurbished when we stayed. Thank you Pam, our room was perfect. The wine evenings are a great way of trying out the local... Flawless hotel is exactly as described on their website. Our rooms were small but there were two of them(!) with a kitchenette that came in handy when we got an enormous lunch from one of many foodcarts nearby. Location could not be better. Walking distance to all public transportation including the max train. We were on the first floor but... More

Super nice staff and a great location. Make sure to ask for one of the recently renovated rooms. They do not disappoint. Only downside was that we had to wait 1/2 hour after check in for our room. The upside, there was a nice tea selection and coffee and cookies while we waited. They also comped us on our overnight... More

This hotel is very close to public transportation, Powells Bookstore, Whole Foods, car rental (Enterprise), and a short walk to NW 23rd as well as downtown shopping. Walk 2-3 blocks to catch the light rail to the airport (about 40 minutes) or Lloyd Center (5-8 minutes). The staff are very friendly and helpful, and their free breakfast is nice. The room... More

I was looking forward to staying here. The end of a cross continent trip and a bit of a splurge on a good hotel. How disappointed I initially was. But how satisfied and happy I left. The walkway from the street was positive- the big bd flags, grand building, modern design sleek, glass and planting. In a great neighbourhood. In... More

Older renovated building. Formerly a residence, The Mark Spencer has been adeptly converted into a pleasant hotel. The decor is far from modern, but it is clean, well kept, and nestled in a prime downtown location. Room prices are very reasonable, and you can easily get a suite with kitchenette, private bathroom, bedroom, and living room, for a price similar... More

My wife and I went to Portland to catch Bob Dylan at the Keller auditorium in downtown Portland. The Mark Spencer met all of our expectations. The Jr. Suite was excellent and remodeled with a living room, very nice kitchenette and separate King size bedroom. The bed was like sleeping in a cloud. Quality bedding and pillows. Parking garage in... More

I hope you enjoyed the Bob Dylan concert! We had many guest going to that concert which I'm sure was sold out. After a great concert, it's always nice to come back to a comfortable bed. Our luxurious linens are like sleeping on a cloud! Portland offers so many wonderful festivals, music and theatre, especially during the holidays. If you... More

Placed in the city center English style hotel with squeaky stairs and narrow spaces. Although the rooms were relatively small they were equipped with kitchen including stove and cutlery. Place with a soul definitely. Service exceptionally courteous and helpful. Parking spaces available. Plus a great price deal for an extended stay. Driving to Hilsboro takes you half an hour and... As we do get many comments regarding our location, I'm glad you mentioned how easy it is to get to other places away from the city center. We are located near many of the major highways that can take you to all the wonderful attractions outside the city limits. I hope you enjoyed your Portland visit and I look forward... More

Arrived early a day later than anticipated due to weather and airline issues. Had to cancel first night's stay and the desk was very understanding. When I arrived on what should have been day 2, I was very early, yet the desk went out of its way to accommodate me. Gave me a suite than a standard room. Clean and... More

We are always happy to greet our guests - even a day later than anticipated! I'm happy you enjoyed the suite as we knew you would be travel weary and ready to relax. I hope if you find yourself in Portland again, you will allow us to be your host. It was our pleasure to have you as our guest!... More

Pros: Location (walk to much you're likely to want to see or do or eat or drink); friendly and helpful staff; bedroom windows that open; fairly comprehensive continental breakfast and other snacks and goodies later in the day. Not really cons, just "be awares": old hotel characteristics such as small rooms, slow elevators, thinnish walls.

Thank you for your comments. We are very proud of the fact that we are the oldest hotel in Portland. The building dates back to 1907 and still retains many of the historic characteristics of that era. We are, however, renovating many parts of the hotel, along with all guestrooms, to make it more comfortable and spacious for our guests.... More
