I liked this hotel very much and intend to make it my home away from home when I visit Portland in the future. The rest of this review will be devoted to a description of some of its characteristics, as it is not a conventional hotel. Retro characteristics: There does not seem to be a way to make a reservation... more

I have wanted to stay at the Ace since I first checked it our 2 years ago. I work for a franchise hotel so the quirky independents always catch my eye. We finally decided to splurge and stay overnight in downtown this year so I was able to book a shared single. (was really hoping for a standard front but... more

I adored this boutique hotel and must say, I could have stayed in the hotel for days and never left and I'd have had the time of my life. The BEST restaurant is right in the lobby/attached, Clyde Common, most wonderful seafood and local beer/wine selection. Comfy room and the pillows were so soft I asked where to buy there.... more

We stayed at the Ace over an extended Memorial Day weekend. The Ace was exactly what we expect and enjoy in a hotel: the decor and style is tasteful and consistent. I've stayed in plenty of hotels that intend to have a stylish feel but just end feeling like a college design student did the interiors. I appreciated the stylish... more

The Ace Hotel is fine, just not great. It felt like an overpriced hostel. The decor was interesting, but not especially convenient (the small, low sink in the corner of the bedroom was especially confusing). The building definitely had charm, but the room was drafty and smelled like an old building. Overall, the place is okay, but in Portland you... more

We loved the hotel and the only reason I took off 1 star is because it was just too hip for us. Seriously. I love the ambience --the made-over old-school building felt like boarding school dorms, but with hand-painted pictures on the wall. The mezzanine lounge is awesome, it has a big chest of drawers in which people leave drawings,... more

My partner and I really enjoyed our stay here. We decided on a whim to spend a night in Portland (we live down the Willamette Valley), and I'm glad we did stay here. As another reviewer noted, the style is very minimalist yet with an old-fashioned feel. I like that it was comfortable and still affordable. It might be a... more

I really liked the hotel. I liked the location in the Pearl District. I loved the restaurant downstairs (Clyde Common) + Stumptown Coffee. I love the design and aesthetic of the hotel. Loved the record player. Very cool + fun. Things I wasn't so into, but sure I wouldn't have cared 5 or 10 years ago - drunk people wandering... more

Such a super location and really friendly (and foxy staff) We stayed over New Year's Eve and enjoyed the relaxed pace of the hotel along with the nicely decorated rooms and forgiving housekeeping staff. Also, despite the number of people it was quiet in our room. The only thing I would say would be to add a sink in the... more

I loved pretty much everything about this place. The photobooth in the lobby, the in-house coffee shop that made the place smell so good, the gorgeous design details, having a shower in the bedroom so you can watch TV while you're in it, the great location (not dodgy like the guidebook said) only a couple of blocks from Powells and... more
