First sight and old-world charm of this grandiose home is seductive. We found the location ideal, an important building in the historic part of the city yet just one small block from restaurants and shops. We only stayed for two nights in the Victorian basement appartment and did not take breakfast, but did take advantage of the generous supply of... More

The home is beautiful inside and out. It is well-maintained and tastefully decorated. Although it is situated in a residential area in the City, it is on a street serviced by City buses and is quite noisy. Even after pulling down the shades, our room had a lot of street light filtering in. The bed was decent. Linens were clean.... More

We are always concerned when we fail to meet the needs of our guests. Normally my partner and I or one of our staff greet each guest at the time of arrival and give them a tour of the bed & breakfast. Occasionally we need to have the guest enter by key code if they arrive when we are away... More

We stayed in the Victorian Apartment which has its own kitchen and dining area and washing machine and dryer. The apartment is in the basement with pipes below the ceiling which detract a little from its ambience but it is still well furnished and very spacious and comfortable.. The positives about this room are the amenities and that it has... More

The room was clean and nicely decorated. The breakfast was well prepared. However, the room was cold and the street noise resulted in a sleepless night. We were aware from the website that our room was on the corner and the Inn is in a city. At checkout the Inn keeper asked about our stay, his tone changed compley when... More

I was of course distressed to hear about the guest's problem sleeping. The room descriptions on our website describe the sound characteristics of each room. Most guests do not notice the street sounds even in the rooms facing the busier street; however, we are in a city and some guests are used to living in the relative silence of the... More

We enjoyed everything about this bed and breakfast. The location is convenient to downtown Portland, there are lots of good restaurants within walking distance, and the owners were extremely helpful in giving us directions, etc. I would definitely stay there again.

We elected to stay in the Irvington section on the East side of Portland at The Lion & The Rose. It turned out to be the best choice possible for our first visit to Portland. The Innkeepers and staff treated us like family and were more than helpful. The room accommodations were excellent. While the downstairs furnishings were a bit... More

The house was gorgeous - we were toured by the staff through out and told the history. Our room was spacious with a huge bed , private bath with clawfoot tub. All staff were friendly and helpful, breakfast was delicious!

The Lion and The Rose is a lovely Victorian home in the Irvington Historic District in Northeast Portland. Best of all, the helpful innkeepers, Steve and Dusty, and their staff have lots of information about what to see and do the city, and good local restaurant suggestions. Kerrie the inn's manager is clearly proud of her adopted city, willing to... More

We spent 3 nights in the Joseph Room. The room and the inn are spectacular. The hosts - Dusty and Steve - are most welcoming. An excellent breakfast is served each morning in their formal dining room. There are delicious snacks, coffee, and tea available all day. The kitchen is open to guests. The inn is located in the Irvington... More

On our first trip to Portland - and to celebrate our wedding anniversary, we chose the Lion and the Rose, as it looked very special. From our initial welcome from Steve (who had to put up with us and a complicated set of room changes over our 5 days), from frequent chats with Dusty, Steve, Dusty, David and Kerrie, we... More
