We've stayed at the Kennedy School a few times and it never disappoints. The room was clean and really nice (Cherry Blossom theme) with high ceilings, large windows. There's no TV or telephone in the room and that was fine by us, there's a lot to do right in the "school"--barhopping, dining, music events, admiring the art in the hallway,... More

I travel to Portland 2-3 times per year for business/pleasure. Since I travel alone I enjoy staying at smaller hotels that have entertainment close by. Kennedy Schools movie autotorium is just the right thing. The restaruant is wonderful and McMenamins Beer & Wine are very enjoyable. The rooms are always clean and the staff is GREAT !!! I'll be sure... More

I was excited to stay here after seeing the website and reading reviews and it lived up to my expectations. A friend lives in Portland and she also gave it great reviews for the bars and theater. My husband and I stayed three nights and were sad to go. I had been worried about the location, but turns out it... More

The Kennedy School is a great choice for travelers looking for a different, non-cookie-cutter hotel experience. You won't get a standard hotel room here--all accommodations are former classrooms, complete with chalkboards, large windows, and unique furnishings. We loved having dinner in the hotel restaurant (the former cafeteria), sampling microbrews at the property's many pubs (we tried three of their six... More

We love McMenamins - we've stayed in three of them now, and the detail that goes into them is absolutely amazing. Quirky and fun, from the decor to the staff to the overall attitude of the place. I am not giving five stars, however much it pains me to do so, for the following reasons: 1. no coffee maker in... More

If you have the chance to stay here, take it! It was by far the most unique hotel I've stayed at in the entire country, having been founded on an old Portland school. The food is great, the beer is "home-brewed," the auditorium is now a movie theater (free if you're a guest) where you can dine-in on vintage couches,... More

Stayed here recently with our two teens. Irrespective of the well-documented novelty of staying here, the hotel experience is above average. Everything was well kept and the staff was attentive. Our bed was comfortable and even though we were leary about having to get "roll-a-way" beds for our teens, they were very sturdy and clean. Our teens never complained and... More

Stayed four nights 8/21-8/24. I knew from the reviews this would be an off-beat unique brew pub/restaurant/theater that just happened to have rooms, but even the low expectations did not quite prepare me. On the positive side, the rooms are fairly large with high ceilings and clean. On the negative side, the facility is very popular even on weekdays and... More

As previews reviews said, this is not a traditional hotel, so avoid it if you are a chain hotel kind of person. It's also a bit far from the city centre. However if you feel excited about staying in a real school and sleeping in a real classroom, then you must try it. We had the Francis room, which was... More

A great, great hotel ! Very original place to stay (a former school), beautiful decoration, very clean, great bath products, supercool soaking pool, nice staff...great location : a bargain ! The restaurant is not so good, but it's a very nice play to eat, so the atmosphere makes up for the "average" food.
