When we were looking for a place to stay in Portland, we were hoping to stay somewhere unique to the city. McMenamins Kennedy School was exactly that! I booked a room in the 'newish' English wing of the hotel for two with a king bed. We arrived Saturday mid-afternoon by car, so the lot was pretty full but we managed... More

We stayed here for a few days recently and really enjoyed it. It's nice being in a hotel that's kid-friendly without being bland and plastic. It's got a nice lively yet laid-back vibe about it. The Courtyard Restaurant has a good food menu and a great patio, and the house draught beers are obviously great. The movie theatre was fantastic... More

With their quirky decor and fine efforts to renovate and restore old properties, McMenamin's are always worth a visit. We stay at the Kennedy School because it is close to my Son's Family and the price is right.

We are visiting McMenamins for a passport experience so we stayed here. We chose to stay in a converted classroom which was cool because it still had the chalkboards and coat closet. The layout of the room was a little weird and the walls are thin so bring earplugs. The toilets are loud. The room itself was good, there are... More

Kennedy School is one of those places where Portlandia was likely partially inspired. An old neighborhood elementary school turned into a quirky arty hotel, with delicious McMenamins beers and food, served in your choice: the courtyard, old cafeteria, the auditorium, in one of the classrooms or boiler room bars. Our experience was fully Portland! We arrived via Amtrak with our... More

The rooms are far more comfortable than I had expected. We had spent a few nights on the coast and were looking forward to some character in Portland. Honestly, I thought the room would be tiny and noisy but I was pleasantly surprised. High ceilings, beautiful big windows, charming furniture and nice beds. The service was pleasant and professional, and... More

Spent 4 nights in the old wing, a converted school room. Bed comfortable, very clean, staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of off street parking, and several bars and a large restaurant in the hotel compensate for a location in a mostly residential area. There is a lovely courtyard for dining in good weather. Bus lines outside make public transportation a... More

CHECK IN/CHECK OUT/PARKING The check-in process was neither great nor bad; the person checking us in kept answering calls from people calling about availability or hours for the soaking pool so it was a bit fragmented. It seems like others at the front desk not helping guests check in should answer the phones. The parking is free but theres the... More

Been here numerous times, but date night this evening was a lot of fun. Spent some time exploring and made a decision that we are going to stay the night at some point so we can explore the entire property and all of the bars that are in this place. Had drinks in the Boiler Room and enjoyed the atmosphere.... More

From the airport, stepped outside and straight to the taxi queue and was chauffeured for $25 to the school. Check in starts at 4, but you can leave your bags at the front desk and start exploring. The school has so much to offer you can get away not leaving, but if it's a sunny day, I recommend going to... More
