For practical purposes I am writing this review under the hotel category, but this place is not only a hotel, it is also a restaurant, a pub, a brewery, a movie theatre, a cigar bar, etc one can even call it a museum because the walls are full of magnificent artworks, and old photographs from the 1940s when this place... I really enjoyed my stay and would have given this place 5 stars if not for a few drawbacks. The good (and great) points: --It is absolutely awesome how this old school was saved from distruction and turned into a motel/bar/restaurant/destination. There is tremendous attention to detail and it would be easy to gawk at the walls and ceilings for... More

This place is amazing. Full of wonderful design elements and amazing little bars to visit. They even have a cigar bar for cigar smokers! The restaurants can be fun & lively but the food is only so-so. I have stayed here 3 times. It's a lovely and unique little hotel. It's important to note however that there are NO amenities... More

This was our fourth stay here over 16 years and we have watched the changes and growth over that time. This trip we stayed in the English Wing, which is an attached new building, not in the original school. Our room was a little small, but still had all the ambience we have come to expect from a McMenamins property... More

We stayed here for our honeymoon. Love this place! It was within walking distance of the awesome arts distric if we wanted to get out but I don't know why we'd want to when they have such a cool movie theater. The art and concert posters everywhere was rad and the restaurant was great too! I wish I could go... More

My husband and I decided to vacation in our former home town of Portland, Oregon. As huge McMenamin's fans we were a bit apprehensive about returning to a McMenamin's with children but those apprehensions quickly washed away. We found the Kennedy School to be a very family-friendly place to stay. We paid a little more for a larger room in... More

We were really intrigued that this school was converted to a hotel. Our room was cool, and each one comes with it's own black board. We left our own message. The staff are great. We found that the hotel had the best food that we could find. It was in a great location from local wineries, and within walking distance... More

This was such a neat experience. The room was comfy and private. The ceilings were high. The decor is fascinating. The food in the courtyard was delicious and they brew their beer in house. Our only regret is that we didn't book far enough in advance so we could only stay one night. I think there was a lot left... More

I stayed here for 7 nights for my first trip to Portland. Man, this place is FUN!!! Location: This hotel is located in the NE outskirts of Portland. It is about a 30 minute bus trip (with one transfer) from downtown, but their transit system is great and they have a really great smart phone app which makes getting around... More

Really enjoyed our two nights here - great room, decent food and nice beer - good value and a refreshing change from standard stuffy hotels. It's aiming at a clientele in their twenties and thirties, but wasn't rowdy at all. Ask for a quiet room if that's what you want. Taxi to downtown cost $23.
