What a unique experience! There is so much to see and do on this property. It was a great place to stay on the day of our travel because everything you could want is right there on the property. There are restaurants, bars (plural), and a movie theater all on site! The hotel is so full of history and interesting.... More

First experience staying at a McMenamins property was a pleasure...restoration of the property was tastefully done taking us back in time. You could just sense all the history that has taken place here. The rooms in the old building are quite comfortable and relaxing; even though we were there on a 95+ degree day, it was comfortable without air conditioning,... More

This felt like staying at an amusement park for adults (although it seemed like a kid-friendly place, too) - a homebrewed cherry beer here, a concert there, sleeping in a classroom with blackboards still on the wall, gift shops with hand made jewelry and tableware. We had lots of fun wandering the halls and just seeing what we'd stumble across,... More

I love all McMenamins but this one is pretty special (though Edgefield remains my #1). The soaking pool is smaller but still relaxing. The room I stayed in had a chalk board to write messages to the next guests (they leave it on). The whole place has a fun vibe. Boiler Room bar has so many interesting things to look... More

I stayed here with my husband & daughter between 16th - 20th of June 2014. The 3 of us loved it. This was our first trip to Portland & I was really happy that we stayed here. Its different to any hotel we have ever stayed in. Food was good, beer & wine was excellent. Staff were really friendly &... More

Spent a couple of days in Portland with my wife, and McMenamins Kennedy School was our base. When we weren't out exploring the city and neighborhoods, we kept busy at the school. Take a soak in the heated speaking pool, catch a movie in the auditorium, or enjoy a cigar in the Detention Bar. There is plenty to do in... More

I stayed here on my first trip to Portland and it lived up to my expectations of the city: quirky and cool. Located out in the suburbs I was initially disappointed with its setting, but we soon found nearby Alberta Street with its plethora of bars, restaurants and shops and soon found ourselves at home. Downtown is only a $15-20... More

The Kennedy School Hotel is a converted elementary school in Portland housing guest rooms, several bars and a movie theatre. The educational theme is quirkily retained; one can drink in the “Detention Room”. A very tasteful and successful conversion. The 'craft' beers are far better than common swill.

Just returned from a week's stay at the Kennedy School. Pros: across the street from the bus stop; free parking. Cons: Our room in the English Wing was unbelievably TINY -- hardly room to unpack our luggage. The café was terrible -- overpriced for food that was not high quality, indifferent service. We have stayed at far better hotels in... More

Hi Doctor007- Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. We are passing on your comments to the chef and the restuarant manager and using these as training tools. Our rooms in the English are smaller than the school house rooms but they are fabulous. These rooms have individual heating and cool systems, they are quieter, everything is new... More

Upon arrival we found out we did not have a room in the school. We had a room in the "New Section" called the English Wing. The room was so small the bathroom sink was in the sleeping area. There was enough room to walk around the bed on three sides and that was it. There was straight back chair,... More
