Travelled down to Portland from Canada for a few days, which included Memorial Day, and so cheap options were kind of limited. I usually give Hostels a wide berth but am glad I gave this a go Great location - took me less than 15 minutes from the Union Station. Very easy to get around Portland from here be it... More

Found it to be a great stop over place to stay, it's located in a quieter part of town, but buses go into the city centre not too far away, close to bars and coffee shops too. I enjoyed exploring that part of the city, everyone in the hostel was very friendly and room/shower facilities were adequate for a short... More

Only stayed here one night on my way to Washington but found it to be clean and comfortable. Desk staff was friendly and helpful. The place is old and gives the impression of a hippie pad, which fits in perfectly with the surrounding area. On site parking is limited but parking available in nearby residential neighborhood. Lots of craft beer... More

This review is really late - I actually stayed there in March of 2014, but damn was it awesome! Supremely eco-friendly, and also just regular friendly. The location is excellent (walking distance to tons of cool sightseeing, shops, markets, restaurants, etc). The lodgings were spotless and cute, and they had a lovely yard and porch for hangouts. The kitchen is... More

This hostel was beautiful! Everything was really well kept. It might have been nice to have better bathroom facilities, but all in all this was a great hostel! Everyone was really friendly and I had a really great experience being there. It's relatively close to the main city area, so it's great to go exploring! After having a really full... More

so im a little late with this review. I actually stayed in August 2013. But this place was awesome! Rooms were clean, bathrooms were clean, backyard was quaint and beautiful. Great place for summer nights. They had lockers in the back so if you are nervous about leaving valuables in the room just lock it up in the back (you... More

Pros: Easy to access different parts of Portland, good coffee. Cons: I stayed here for a weekend this last month. I was exhausted after traveling, and had to be up early the next day. A couple of women came into the room at around 3 am and despite the polite requests of other women in the room, were drunkenly belligerent,... More

Rooms were clean, kitchen was kept tidy, had a very nice cute little backyard for those warm summer nights! A friend and I stayed here in the Co-Ed dorm room (which was a little awkward to get to because you have to go across the male dorm room..but oh well!) The front desk staff answered any and all questions we... More

Very clean room, helpful staff, great breakfast (replenished when done), modern door codes not keys, towels provided, location good - great bus routes all over the city. Never had to wait for a shower but there was only one shower and two toilets on our floor, no lockers but it felt safe; however it was family orientated and guests had... More

I live nearby in Eugene, and I come up to PDX routinely for weekend getaways. For me, the Hawthorne Hostel is a destination in itself. It's very comfortable and relaxed, with a big expansive kitchen that can accommodate lots of people at once. But what I love most about it is that it's set up to facilitate social interactions. I...
