We stayed at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Portland Downtown for two days with two of our college-aged children in March, 2023. When we reached the hotel by car, we couldn't find the entrance to the parking garage, so we called the hotel and received instructions clearly. The parking garage is adjacent to the hotel, and you have to cross the street to get inside. We didn't realize when we booked our stay that the parking charge is $45 per night! The parking garage is kind of sketchy, as is the elevator, but once we arrived inside of the hotel we were very happy. There is a valet available if you choose to use that service. The lobby is absolutely beautiful, and will take you back in time. There is a little "store" located by the front desk where you can purchase coffee, drinks and snacks. The front desk employees are very friendly and nice. We were given our key cards for our room, and took the elevator to our floor. Our room was very clean and nicely decorated. The spacious bedroom was separate from the rest of the room. It included two large beds, a large television and large windows with light-blocking shades. The bathroom was also large, and included soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion and a blow dryer. A separate wet bar is near the bathroom area and includes a mini fridge and a sink/faucet. There were two large towels, two hand towels and two wash cloths in the bathroom. We needed more towels for our family of four, so we simply called down to the front desk, and they brought more to our room. After spending 1-1/2 hours in our room, we found that the room was not getting any warmer, despite the fact that we kept turning up the thermometer, so we again called down to the front desk, and they immediately sent a maintenance person to see if something was wrong with the heater. The maintenance person was so nice and friendly, and informed us that the HVAC system in our room wasn't working, and that they would immediately move us to another room. We moved to a room two doors down, and the room was just as lovely as the first, and the heater worked well. We enjoyed an evening reception that included two alcoholic drinks per person, vegetables, cheese, crackers and dip. The reception area is decorated very nicely, and the bartender made me one of the best Lemon Drop Martinis that I've ever tasted. Our college-aged children wanted to go for a swim, so we headed down to the pool area. On the way, we met another family of four on their way back from the pool. They told us to stay away from the pool as there was a gentleman in the pool with five screaming children and a dog. We kind of laughed off their comments as we have a family of five, and have always travelled with our children. We were a little shocked as we got closer to the pool area as we started hearing a dog yipping loudly. We opened the door to the pool area, and there really was a dog in a crate by the pool yipping very loudly. The children were lovely, and we didn't mind them having a wonderful time in the pool, but the dog's barks were deafening. We left, and walked to the front desk to ask if dogs were permitted in the pool area. We spoke with Wade, and he was so friendly and nice, and told us that dogs were definitely not allowed in the pool area. We decided to call it a night, and spend time with our family in our room before bed. At around 11:00 pm, we headed for bed. For the next 1-1/2 hours, we heard children running back and forth (loudly) in the room above ours. It was very hard to get to sleep. However, once we did, the comfortable beds, linens and pillows lulled us to sleep. We were awakened the next morning by the same children running back and forth across the room above us. After a delicious full breakfast the next morning in the same lovely room where we enjoyed the evening reception, we went to talk to Wade at the front desk. We explained to Wade that we didn't get much sleep the night before or that morning because of the constant running of the children, and asked for an upgraded room. Wade was so understanding and accomodating. He apologized for the noise, the cold room the night before, and for the experience at the pool, upgraded our room to one double the size of our previous room, and waived one night's parking fee. We were beyond pleased. Wade truly went out of his way to make this stay perfect, despite a few minor problems. I'm not sure what our new room was called, but it had windows all the way around it. It was as large as a small apartment! It was beautiful furnished. Again, we attended the evening reception with our college-aged children, met new friends, and spent a nice day in Portland. Wade told us a little history about the hotel, including the fact that Elvis Presley once stayed there. We enjoyed visiting VooDoo Doughnuts just a short walk from the hotel. Although there is a heavy police presence at VooDoo Doughnuts, we felt completely safe at all times. We will definitely stay at this hotel again, and I will recommend it to my family and friends. It's in the perfect location for just about everything. Thank you, Wade, for everything you did to make our stay absolutely perfect. And to the woman bartender (I'm so sorry that I forgot your name), you make the BEST lemon drop martinis. Thank you for going out of your way to make them for me.…
