We stayed at the Monaco for three nights and loved it. However, I have to give a lot of the credit to the fact that when they heard we were on our honeymoon, they upgraded us to a fancy suite (I think it was a particularly slow week). The suite was awesome! Even apart from that, we loved everything about... more

great hotel, old/classic building, great staff, great bar, great rooms. Restaurant was only so so. Monaco Restaurant in Salt Lake was incredible, Red Star in Portland was a disappointment. http://www.monaco-portland.com/ more

We spent a weekend at the Hotel Monaco in Portland and for the most part enjoyed our stay greatly. The staff was very friendly, both the bellman and the front desk. The room was immaculate and the hotel as a whole very clean. We had gotten a good rate on hotels.com during one of their 24-hr sales, about $99/night. Unfortunately,... more

Great rooms, great staff, great amenities, great rate. I love downtown Portland and this great "old school" hotel is right in the middle of it. The air conditioner was a little weak, but other than that it was perfect. more

Having stayed at Fifth Avenue Suites and now the Monaco several times, we'd have to say that this was the best visit yet. Everything about the hotel is perfect: location, service, quality and size of the rooms, the happy hour, amenities, etc. And the $81/day rate was a steal!! Portland is an increasingly fun, walkable, and friendly small city. This... more

Everything about our experience at Hotel Monaco was a treat. The staff is amazing. They have helpful tips and are more than willing to make suggestions. The front desk staff directed us to two different restaurants for breakfast... and both were awesome (Mother's Bistro - downtown... and Pambiche - North East area) The hotel offers nightly wine and beer socials... more

This is one of my all time favorite hotels - this includes other Kimpton properties. It is exceptionally quirky in decoration and in their lobby activities - but this gives the hotel its exceptional charm. I recommend you go there and expect to spend some time painting, tasting their late afternoon beverages, enjoy guests actually circulating and talking with one... more

We got a deal on an online comparison site but we looked up the regular prices online and I still think it would be a fair price to pay. The staff was very professional, nice, and respectful. The room was what really stuck with us though. High ceilings, two flat screen TVs, very clean, new and interesting room decor, large... more

I was deciding between hotel monaco and hotel vintage plaza for my trip to Portland. After reading this website, I decided to go with Hotel Monaco because of the many positive comments the travelers have given. I couldn't be happier with the decision. I had such an excellent time in Portland staying in this hotel. Here are the summaries of... more

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco for my birthday, and the staff there made me feel very special. First, the check-in people were extremely nice. Then, when we got to our room, a special tray awaited me with birthday surprises: a birthday card, a yoga DVD, a bottle of wine, fruit and chocolate. After a walk in... more
