My family and I have stayed at the Whaler several times over the years because it it cheap, right on the beach and they take doggies! It is a great, no-frills place to stay. A little run-down, not luxurious, but the service is always impeccable and the staff is so friendly. We have always stayed on the first floor because... more

We stayed 1 night on June 25th in room 369 with our dog. We paid $79.00 per night plus a $10.00 pet fee. The Good: Fantastic ocean view, the price, easy access to Nye Beach right across the street, clean, no odors, spacious (enough room for luggage, cooler, the dog's 4' long bed, food and water bowls, toys, etc. without... more

The Whaler was perfectly adequate for our weekend stay. The rooms are fairly spacious and clean. We were on the first floor so the view wasn't spectacular, but you could still see the water. The hotel is across the street from the water. It's right next to the Elizabeth Street Inn, but a fraction of the price. Hotel staff were... more

Motel is kind of old and a simple place. Room decor was very out of date. Room kind of noisy - could hear all the toilet flushes from nearby rooms (the toilets do flush loudly). Bed was comfortable. Had a room with a small balcony - some construction currently going on, so be sure to ask for a room away... more

We stay at the Whaler severial times a year to visit our daughter and grandchildren. We like everything about it and were especially pleased to discover that they have a new elevator now. We were already booked on the 1st floor because my husband can not climb stairs but, we will certaily book the upper floors on our next visits. more

First, thank you to the OR forum for recommending this motel. We stayed here June 18-19 in the basic Queen room (had two rooms for first night for daugher and grandaughter, and one for us alone second night) CHECK-IN The service people are very friendly, happy to offer any assistance with directions in town, maps, etc. They had good popcorn... more

My family and I have stayed here numerous times, and have enjoyed it everytime. Its most memorable because the first time we stayed I got a great view of the ocean (although I believe all rooms have ocean views) and got to see dozens of the resident whales spouting out in the horizon. It has easy access to the ocean,... more

Management and staff went out of their way to make our recent stay a most enjoyable one. Property is well maintained, convenient to all area attractions and restaurants. The indoor pool and hot tub area were emaculately maintained. more

Having stayed in Newport 5 times or more I was glad to find this little gem. The price was resonable, service was exellent and the view outstanding. My wife loves lighthouses and from our corner room you couple see Yakina head. The walk to the beach is short and mostly paved and not very busy. Watch out for the hotels... more

We just accidentally found this motel while looking for another. The location was great across from the beach. The room was clean, quiet, and spacious with a fireplace (unfortunately it was too warm to try it). The exercise room was okay--well-maintained equipment, but could've used some kind of weights or another cardio machine. The jacuzzi was above-average--most jacuzzis aren't hot... more
