Based on TA reviews we decided to try The Whaler and were glad we did. The rooms were clean and fresh smelling (although our dog did a LOT of sniffing around), the staff was very friendly and helpful. Although we had a first floor room we did have a nice view of the ocean. A very nice path to the... More

This hotel is perfectly situated right across from the beach and within steps of Nye Beach. Very friendly staff, and very dog friendly hotel. We stayed New Year's weekend, but it didn't feel crowded or busy. After walking everywhere, the room offered a nice relaxing stay with a great view, and our own private balcony (our black lab loved sitting... More

This place was excellent! They allow dogs, have super comfy beds with a foam top, have great views of the ocean, are across the street from the beach, and have a very tasty coffee/breakfast setup. The best part of all is that the Whaler is family-owned and family-run. The family lives in Newport. It's also just a few blocks from... More

The bed is long enough for my 6'2" husband, and it is Just Right. Firm and cushiony. The non-handicapped accessible room has doors wide enough for his wheelchair. Elevator got us to third floor. The bathroom has separate switches for turning on the fan, which is a joyous thing for me, because I hate fans that come on when you... More

My husband and I recently took our two young girls to Newport for the night. We have stayed here many times on our own but this time bringing our children for the first time. We loved the 2 Queen bed mini suite, and the 3rd floor is a must for the view! The Whaler is always so convenient to everything,... More

A friend and I stayed in a jr. suite on the 2nd level with 2 queen beds and comfortable upholstered chair & loveseat. The decor is simple, but the view is good, great sunsets, and we really enjoyed the sound of the surf. The way to the beach is through a war memorial park, nice trail & seating. It's a... More

let me start with the good points: the desk people/staff are very nice, warm, welcoming, helpful, friendly... in person and over the phone which is great for travelers :) the lobby has free hot beverages coffee/tea etc, free newspapers, and fresh popcorn.. and i think in the morning muffins/bagels? we had a balcony with a beautiful view of the ocean...... Got a room with two queen beds, and the view of the ocean was really nice. The hotel has a nice jacuzzi and heated pool. They also offer breakfast items (muffins and fresh fruit). Perfect stay for a stop as you drive down the Oregon Coast More

My husband and I stayed two nights at the Whaler a couple weeks ago. The room was average...a bit outdated...but the ocean views definitely made up for it! Great location close to beach access and cute little Nye Beach area with shops and restaurants. I don't think you could find a more affordable place on the beach in Newport. One... More

Clean, basic and roomy. Includes a very small unremarkable breakfast. Great ocean views on the far side rooms. Have pet friendly and pet free rooms. Be sure to see Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area. Well worth the $7 entrance fee for seals, tidepooling, whales, great lighthouse and scenic short hikes! More
