I had originally booked at the Shilo right on the edge of the water but the Econo Lodge is a couple blocks east and for about $40 less. (Total about $79.) Great hotel for the Newport marathon! It's close to the start of the race. I got an ocean view room, with a small refrigerator, microwave, broadband and wireless. The manager or owner was friendly, knowledgable, gave us recommendations on where to eat, where to do laundry, and gave us late checkout so I could take a shower after the race.... more

The room was basic and clean but the bathroom needed to be renovated. I don't think there was even a light in the toilet/shower area. I was very apprehensive about staying, i've had BAD luck with econolodges, but this one seemed to get good reviews so I took a chance. The rooms were VERY clean, nice tv, microwave, & fridge, the hotel owner was VERY friendly. No bugs!! For the price, this hotel was a real bargain! more
