Wish we could have stayed longer at this wonderful old-fashioned but updated motel. It's sits up on the hill above the town of Mitchell and the view is fantastic. Our room was clean and comfortable. The area in front of the row of rooms has picnic tables and metal chairs which made it nice to sit outside in the evening.... More

We stayed here the weekend after labor day and were able to reserve 3 of their rooms with only a few days notice. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The rooms were absolutely great! 2 bedrooms, kitchen, and seem to be recently painted and kept up. Very clean and kind of like a cabin inside, very misleading from the... More

I stayed one November night passing through, enjoyed the warm clean room and friendly people. The motel is elevated well above the highway, and there's an excellent cafe and "mom & pop" gas station down the hill and across the street. For a small and inexpensive hotel in the middle of nowhere I was charmed, and would definitely stay again.

We also were traveling cross country on our bikes and rolled into Mitchell. Town of 150 people with two hotels, 3 restaurants and a market. The hotel downtown was booked, so we went up the hill to the Skyhook. The sign is a little old and made us wonder what we'd find, but what we found was a great owner... More

Basic rooms a bit dated but clean can't beat the price. Located near some excellent natural areas. Free wi fi and direct TV . Bring some food no good place to eat in the area. Sat on the small porch and watched the lightning storm.

We are bicycling cross country through small town USA. Our hotel accommodations have ranged from the excellent to the not so much. Our expectations weren't much for this hotel before arriving in Mitchell. As we came up the very steep driveway we found this property to be immaculately maintained and extremely "cute". In addition the owner, Denny, is very friendly.... More

Was not really sure what to expect when I made the reservation at Sky Hook, never made a reservation where I did not get a confirmation letter or email. I was plesantly surprised upon check in. The location is perfect, the John Day Fossil Beds and Painted Hills at your door step. The room is very charming, decorated and very... More

Very remote area and ideally located if you want to see the Painted Hills or explore the John Day Fossil Beds. Clean, comfortable, totally unpretentious, charmingly decorated and very reasonably priced. It is a small complex with only 5 rooms and the Owner/Operator is a fine Gentleman and a genuine good Person. He told me that he screens carefully to... More

Mitchell is the closest town to the Painted Hills and there are only two motels in town. I called the other one first but they were fully booked except for rooms with shared baths, which I won't do unless it's absolutely necessary. Anyway, I booked the day before arrival, and by nightfall of the next day, it was already full.... More

On a recent road trip to explore all three of the John Day Fossil Beds, I decided to bunk down in Mitchell, Oregon, due to the great proximity to all of the sites. I stayed three nights at The Sky Hook Motel, a six unit motel that sits on the hill above the town of Mitchell. Clean and comfortable, the... More
