This place is viewable as you drive by, eastbound on Hwy 84 coming into Hood River in the Columbia River Gorge. Booked a two night stay through Living Social and my stay was definately a pleasant one. Built in 1954 this place has been lovingly maitained; the grounds were nicely landscaped w/huge boulders, Rhododendruns and winding walkways. It is pleasant... More

I fell in love with this lodge the moment I arrived. I was on a graduation trip with my mother that she meticulously planned. We had a lovely bottom floor room with a fantastic view of the river. The grounds were beautiful and the staff was extremely helpful and engaging. If ever I am back in this area I would... More

This was a great, great value. 100$ for a great room that was larger than any NYC apartment I ever lived in? Pretty views from the property and great service? Sold. I'll definitely come back again. The rooms up further away from the views may seem less desirable but they are HUGE and new and the bathroom was bigger than... More

We were so please with our stay here! We stayed in 2 different rooms over 4 days.. The courtyard rooms are newer, and the views are nice. The river view rooms are older, but charming, and the view is fabulous. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We had private balconies in both rooms. We appreciated the wine glasses and cork... The Vagabond is easy to find and spot from the road. It is a bit outside town, but very quick and easy to drive to the main part of town. The Hotel is a bit dated, but an excellent value. The rooms were clean with a lovely view of the river and calming landscapes and vistas. The coffee machines in... More

Parts of the Vagabond are quite "vintage." We stayed in a newer river view room and loved it. It's very clean and comfortable, with a private balcony overlooking the Columbia River. The grounds are pleasant, forested and peaceful. All the employees we met were super friendly and accommodating. We were pleased to note that an even newer building had numerous... More

At first we had a room by the Columbia River. The room was extremely dated and had a smell to it. The window was open to air it out. We just didn't like the room and thought we would just leave even though we paid for the night. We asked about an upgrade. The staff was very nice and upgraded... More

Thanks much for your review, glad you enjoyed the Jacuzzi Suite! I'll take a look at that room and fix anything that may be amiss. We do have some more improvements on the way as well, so things will just keep getting better and better. Thanks again! More

We have stayed here twice. The river view rooms are really worth it. The master bedroom/sitting area is quite large and has windows the entire length of the room. There is a fireplace, couch, chair, refrigerator, desk, wine glasses and opener. There is a second bedroom we use for our suitcases. There are doggy pick up bags and trash cans... More

Thanks for your review, glad you enjoyed your Suite! We're going to keep updating out furniture as well. It's all locally made and hardwood; no particle board. Thanks again and see you next time! More

I stayed in one of the newer buildings. My room was large and clean, but it was somewhat sterile and lacked historic character. The beds were nice but not amazing. For a new building, they lacked sufficient outlets for my technology. The bathroom was huge with two spouts for the shower (the overhead one was great).

Thanks for your review! We're working on getting some local art for our rooms, especially the building you were in. We'll get some more character into that building as well; it's one of those things that takes a little time to do the right way. Thanks again! More

Liked it so much we came back 2 days later. Independent, family-owned motel. People are SWEET, friendly and kind. The cheapest rooms are near the highway but for a few dollars more you can get a much quieter room. The best ones have great views. Dog friendly with lovely places to play and romp. Highly recommended!

Thanks much, glad you enjoyed your visit! We're building more open spaces and features around the grounds as well, so there will always be plenty of spots to play and romp; It's what we've done since my grandparents built our original building in '54. Thanks again! More
