The previous reviews say it all: great location, great scenery and simple. If you're expecting the amenities of modern hotels stay in Burns. Breakfast and dinner are served family style and excellent. Most of the serving dishes are still half full at the end of dinner, which seems a little wasteful. An ideal place to stay for exploring the Steens... more

We drove way out of our way to see the Steens Mtns & Refuge Park and to stay in this hotel. It was well worth it. The scenery is nothing short of glorious and we saw lots of wildlife. Some of the roads in the area are dicey and it feels very isolated. We did get Verizon cell coverage but... more

I have returned to the Frenchglen alone or with friends many times over the years and I never get enough of it. This is a place like no other. The food is terrific and plentiful (but make your reservations for dinner!) and the seemingly spartan accomodations turn out to be exactly enough to set off the real treasure of this... more

This hotel provides a great base to explore the Steens Mountains. The rooms were clean and simple, they have rooms with bath and shared bath in the main hotel. Food is simple but really good served in family style. Can meet lots of other people and share information at meals. Others talked about needing calling card for phone but at... more

The Frenchglen Hotel remains the same comfortable place over the years. I have stayed or eaten there many times since 1981, when the current manager started. Most of the upstairs bedrooms are very small (10 x 9) with two bathrooms down the hall (one for men, one for women). The beds are comfortable and the ambiance is that of a... more

I think the best part of this place is the fact that there's a certain camaraderie between guests that have braved the uncertain roads to get to Frenchglen. This town is kind of an oasis located at the southern tip of a wildlife refuge and on the eastern tip of an antelope refuge. You can't beat the location if you're... more

We stayed at the Drovers Inn, the newer units behind the historic inn, because we like a private bath, Very clean, very quiet. Beds were very comfortable. Microwave and small fridge in room. If you stay here, make sure you make reservations for dinner, as there is nowhere else to get dinner for miles around. We had a tremendous stay. The... more

I recently spent a night at the Frenchglen Hotel, in the tiny village (population 12!) of Frenchglen Oregon. The Hotel is owned by the Oregon State Parks Service, and has eight rooms in the main building and three (?) in the "Drovers Inn" out back. The Hotel gives the appearance of being charmingly lost in time--that perhaps the only modification... more

We just returned from a wonderful bird watching trip with Mark Smith Tours and stayed at the Frenchglen Hotel for three nights. The feeling of the place is from another era. It takes me back to our visits in South Dakota with my grandmother. The atmosphere is so warm and inviting. And the food is fabulous. Great home cooking at... more
