Too bad, because the setting is fantastic, and there aren't a lot of choices in Fossil. The houses are fantastic, but very run down and not maintained. Very unclean and dreary. No coffee in the morning, had to wait until breakfast was served. The owner seemed very preoccupied and didn't seem to have any assistants or helpers. Looks like it's... More

What a shock to learn that the price I was quoted 4 days earlier over the phone would be "forgotten" and that we would be charged nearly double what I expected! This after staying in a house infested with spiders and cobwebs in nearly every corner. The place had pleanty of charm, if you looked past the need for some... More

The sink, toilet and bed seemed reasonably clean but there was dirt and grime everywhere else -- gross. The $75 rate was high given the quality. My credit card was charged $515 for one night - VISA is working to get it resolved.

Four of my co-workers and I stayed here for a week while we were working in town. First the proprietor was not home and we had to wait after working outside all day for her to arrive. Then we were shown into the second building, not the main house. Once showing us to the rooms she proceeded to let us... More

The owner told us that she accepts dogs, so we made a reservation. We arrived after a long drive and the owner became upset that we had two dogs and that they are "long hair." She said that I hadn't told her they are "long hair" (she never asked about their hair length). Her partner told us that if the... More

We stayed in the Fossil Lodge in the downstairs bedroom. It was clean, comfortable, and also very cool considering the 90+ degrees it was outside. We travelled from Olympia, spent some time hiking around the Clarno Unit of the John Day Fossil Beds and were looking forward to a relaxing afternoon and evening. We got all that and more at... The website pictures must be quite old, as now the paint is peeling, front porch boards are eroded, and the whole place needs LOTS of TLC! Very dirty, dark, unfriendly and in general not a pleasant experience. Only good thing about it was the breakfast, which was good, but not good enough to make up for the deteriorated and filthy... This property is connected to the Fossil Lodge, which is next door. My family and I stayed in rooms at the Fossil Lodge; however, the guests at both properties gather at the Fossil Lodge for breakfast and we toured the Bridge Creek Floral Inn. I would love to return one day and stay at the Inn. I am attaching pictures... More

After traveling from Australia for yet another road trip in USA, we (2 x 49'ers) fell upon this little gem of a town and B&B after a great day at the John Day Painted Hills. Fell in love with this 1905 built homestead, snuggling up under a beautiful patchwork quilt after a day out photographing the Painted Hills and the... More

The John Day Fossil Beds are a fascinating geological experience, and the views are gorgeous; awesome in the true sense of the word. Hiking in the area is wonderful. The town of Fossil has fossil beds that one can actually dig through, which is fun for kids and adults. So if you want to see these attractions, the town of... More
