I was nearly put off by some negative reviews but found those reviews to be inaccurate. We had a lovely overnight stay at the Gilchrist Guesthouse as we passed through on a route 80 road trip. We walked to Lake Erie and then into town for an ice cream. Our room #1 was wonderful. Lots of room and very clean.... More

Dan & Laura are the ultimate proprietors!!! Their guesthouse is fabulous. The guest rooms are immaculate and the beds are extremely comfortable. We stayed in room One which was the biggest and we loved it. The front porch is our favorite place to hang out and the location of the guesthouse is wonderful for parking your car and just walking... All I can say is don't go here. It's depressing. The single bed in the room didn't even have a mattress, it was a boxspring. The towels were something you'll find at a thrift store. The furniture actually was torn and stained. The area that had the boxes of cereal...that was breakfast.... is gloomy and had a fan blowing 24/7.... More

This review is completely untrue. That suite has a queen size bed as well as a twin bed, and both beds, of course, have mattresses and boxsprings. There are NO stains or rips in any of the furniture, and the towels in that suite were purchased two weeks ago. As for the breakfast, it is a continental breakfast and includes... More

We booked the Gilchrist Guesthouse to visit friends in Vermilion. The location is very good as it is walking distance to the Main St Beach and downtown. We stayed in room 4 which has a double and twin bed, there was plenty of space in the room for the 3 of us. For light sleepers you may need to sleep... More

I loved my stay here. We learned a little bit about the owners. They made it very comfortable for me. I booked all six rooms months before, but had a family death. I didn't need all of them, figured I still need to pay for them. They didn't charge me for the three I didn't use. I will definitely be... More

A classic B&B, with a good balance of practicality and "cuteness". Some of the units have kitchens, others are two story. While it's clear you're staying in a historic house (the doorknob is loose and some of the fixtures more dated than antique) it is a nice place to stay. Breakfast is serve-yourself cereal, fruit and baked goods. At only... More

It is a very old fashioned place. But its cute and comfortable. If you want a REAL bed and breakfast then this is the place to be. No owner bothering you every second or trying to get you to leave. Very lovely breakfast display in the morning. Just overall has a very homey feel.

Really love this little place, we've stayed here a couple of times. Wanted a place that felt good when we were there but was close to all the interesting things to do in the charming town of Vermilion. Owner is nice, is from Vermilion, so he's a good source of info about things around town. Nice establishment, clean, great rooms,... More

Good location - close to downtown, shops, restaurants, bars, and the lake. Room was clean and decorated with antiques. Owner was knowledgable and offered suggestions of things to do and see. Well-known 4 star French restaurant nearby. (Too bad Great Lakes Museum has closed.) Public beach.

Clearly, the owners of this place use it as a cash cow. Its only good points are its proximity to the lake and to a good restaurant. We never saw the owners and there was no welcome note in the room. It has a rather shabby appearance and is simply poorly maintained. When my husband called to make a reservation... More

I am sorry you folks did not enjoy your stay. We do have larger rooms available but the prices vary and your husband chose one of the smaller rooms. It does ,however have a very large bathroom with 2 large windows for natural light as well as a ceiling fixture. Yes, the fixture does have a pull chain ,which works... More
