We stayed at LeMoines Lakehouse 9/30-10/1/2017 and were very happy with the cabin despite the horrible reviews. We went into the weekend expecting the worst and were pleasantly surprised and a little shocked at how bad the ratings were of this place so I wanted to write a detailed review of what really to expect. About the smell: We were expecting sewage and everything we took to smell like sewage. The smell we read about I can only assume was what we encountered which was either 1.) The sulfur from the well water (which is normal in the country) or 2.) The smell of cedar from the wood, because it's a cabin. Now I get it, if you go into this expecting an Air BnB luxury house with wood exterior then you'll be setting yourself with the wrong expectations. If you're looking to get closer to nature while still having the luxury of electric, private bath, actual mattress, and kitchen then this place is perfect for you. About the cleanliness: I as really surprised at how clean this cabin was considering it's surrounded by a pond and many trees. The floor was clean, the bathroom was very clean, the kitchen showed no sign of previous occupants, the towels and linens looked clean (though we did bring our own as preparation after reading previous reviews). The only thing I could say about the cleanliness was the large dust bunnies under the downstairs bed (the reason for my 4 star and not 5). Otherwise yes you will see cobwebs because again, nature, but nothing that screams filthy. What I can't speak to: -We did not use the hot tub, but heard it come on a few times. Towels were provided which was a nice touch. -We did not use the wifi but took the time to be disconnected (no cell service either). It was a great time to just enjoy good company. -We did not fish or use the play area in the grounds around the cabin. Tips for future travelers: -Bring bottled water and lots of it. We didn't rely on the water because we are not used to well water or the smell. So we stopped at a grocery store before hand and were prepared with water not just for hiking, but for every use in the kitchen. We did, however, use the well water when cleaning dishes and washing hands as they provided soap and the smell didn't linger when the water wasn't running. -Bring aluminum foil. Use the fire pit cooking grate and have fun cooking over the fire. -Buy firewood just before getting there. There were not as many bugs as I was expecting outside of the cabin so spend some time making a fire and sitting on the benches surrounding the pit. -Try to arrive during daylight. We arrived at night and while it wasn't impossible to find, losing cell/GPS and relying on the map was a bit harder. -Bring toilet paper/paper towels. We didn't go through what they supplied, but were close to. Save yourself the stress and pack a couple of rolls before leaving your house to bring along. -If you're afraid of smelling like sulfur after a shower, find an essential oil that you prefer and mix it into some non-scent lotion. Also apply to hair and the sulfur will not linger. -Just like any camping trip, expect to come home and take a shower and wash clothes to remove the "nature" smell. Add a little vinegar to your detergent and you're all set. Pros: -Well stocked kitchen supplies meaning dishes, pots and pans, flatware, and soap -Central Heat (or AC if you're staying in the summer) -Clean bathroom equipped with soap, shampoo, conditioner -Deck has seating to eat as does the fire pit Cons: -No indoor table or bar stools so if you're going when it's raining or snowing, you're more than likely eating standing up, or in the living area Who I would recommend this to: -Anyone that loves camping but doesn't want to sleep on the ground or be without electricity and heat -If your main part of the trip is to see the sights, come back and cook, possibly play a board game -Those looking for a fun weekend to be a bit closer to nature and have a comfortable place to stay Who would most likely not enjoy this cabin: -Those that are looking more for a home away from home to spend most or all of their time indoors (as this area does not have cell service, the television is small, and no indoor table) Recap: I would give this place a try. It's very reasonable in pricing and if you have the right expectations about a cabin this will be a really nice place to stay. We would absolutely return here for another weekend exploring Hocking Hills State Park.

I stayed here with my family and was very pleased with the peacefulness and reasonable privacy of the location. PROS: The cabin was cute, the DISH service was reliable, good AC, the hot tub was OK and fairly comfortable beds. CONS: The well water smelt like sewage, there was no drinking water provided, a half a roll of toilet paper was provided for 4 adults spending 2 nights, only one very small pot provided for boiling anything (a couple frying pans). You pay extra for Wifi which was a waste of money - we could barely access the Wifi. The place was not very clean and we were definitely ready to leave by the third day there.

Should be illegal. They now rent it under Patrick Haus Cabins to get away from bad reviews of Clover Retreat Cabins. This place smells so badly - the sofa was stained and crawling with bugs, bathroom absolutely disgusting. Moldy patio chairs covered in filth - not been wiped down in years. Dishes were stained, pots and pans still had dried food on them. Not even safe to stay in or use the facilities. Disappointing after a long drive to get there and have to leave a couple hours later. They would not answer our numerous phone calls at the number provided. Then after - we find other terrible reviews on tripadvisor. Learned a big lesson - always check Trip Advisor FIRST.

I hadn't read the reviews until the day before we left for our trip and i was really worried, but i got there and was very pleasantly surprised. This place isn't THE most luxurious cabin but it's in a beautiful location and we had a great time! First off... PAY FOR THE WIFI! I know it's kind of expensive but it's worth it! the connection isn't the best but there is no cell reception at all in the area and a little is far better than none. If you don't pay for it when you book you won't get it. Also it has central air conditioning that worked fast and was wonderful in the humid/hot weather. Second... the place is very remote. It's about 20 minutes away from all the sights and the nearest store/gas station, but in my opinion that's part of the appeal! no traffic, no noise, and the stargazing is INCREDIBLE! not to mention the all the wildlife in your back yard! If you go in the summer you will hear bullfrogs all night, it's kind of a strange sound if you've never heard it. PRINT OUT DIRECTIONS BEFOREHAND!!! I printed out directions to the nearest gas station, and to Logan (which is where most of the sights and all the nearest stores are, plus you get cell reception there). Come prepared and know that the roads are a little scary down there so have someone to help you navigate if possible. My GPS worked all the way to the cabin because i had it pulled up on my phone before i lost service. There is kind of a weird smell, i give you that. I had to wash ALL of the clothes i brought with me because the smell definitely lingered on them. But again, you're in a cabin in the middle of the woods so I don't think it's too unreasonable. The hot tub was great! It was a little dirty (a few leaves and sticks floating on top, nothing too bad) but if you turn the jets on for a bit and let it filter out, it was fine. Again, you're in the middle of the woods, you can't expect nothing to blow in there. Keep the cover on at ALL times if you're not in it. ALSO DO NOT turn the temp up past 99 degrees! that is the set temp point and it will shut itself off until it cools back down to 99. Something that took me forever to figure out and we were really worried it was broken. BRING TOWELS, PILLOWS, AND BLANKETS! I admit the blankets and pillows provided in the cabin were not great. There were not nearly enough and the ones they had were smelly and had old stains on them. They were clean, but there were some old questionable stains. I was very glad i had brought my own blankets and pillows. The towels provided were fine but there weren't that many and you'll definitely need them if you want to use the hot tub. (remember, you're going to need to wash everything you bring because it will smell like the cabin) There are only 3 beds, two are upstairs in the loft bedroom and don't have much privacy. The staircase is also very narrow and it's a winding staircase, made me a little claustrophobic. There is a master bedroom downstairs that does have a door. BRING DRINKING WATER! The cabin came with a jug of filtered water with a dispenser, but we just brought and used our own instead. The cabin has well water, which if you've never experienced, has a weird smell and is kind of weird to drink. (It's actually way better for your skin and hair though). Showering is fine, make sure you check the shower for bugs, again you're in the wilderness. We didn't find any scary bugs inside though which was good. I would also recommend bringing extra toilet paper, there was only 2 rolls when we got there and they were really small so we had to go into town and get more, but it was no big deal because we needed charcoal anyway. We also brought clorox wipes to wipe down the counters when we got there just in case, but we really didn't need to use them. They do provide a small amount of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the bathroom but not all of them were refilled so i would recommend bringing your own. There was a little pile of firewood there under the porch but i don't think they usually keep it stocked. if you plan on using the firepit, there are some locals that sell firewood at their house and there are also bundles for sale at all the gas stations. (please just don't bring any from home moving firewood can be very dangerous to the surrounding ecosystem). And there are a ton of sticks and logs laying around the back yard you can use. Also make sure to bring charcoal if you want to use the grill! We used it every day and it was really nice. If you use it at night i would bring a lantern, the back yard gets pretty dark and it's kind of on a hill. There are pots, pans, and cooking utensils there and a full kitchen! so i would recommend making your own food. There are no spices or anything so i would recommend bringing small travel packs of whatever you need. The nearest restaurant is about 20 mins away and driving at night there can be scary. We are not fishers so i cannot say how stocked the pond was, but i am a biologist and i can assure you that the pond was full of life. There is a cute little rowboat (no life jackets though) that we used and it was super fun! there is also a larger lake across from the cabin that you can swim in! Having our own little pond out back was beautiful and falling asleep to the sounds of nature was so great. When you book they tell you you need to be out of the cabin by 11am the day you leave, which is fine, but we were still packing up the car at 1105 and the cleaning people were already there, i was a little surprised. Make sure you're ready to go by 11 or else they will stare at you while you pack up your car. The renting company is hard to get a hold of. i tried calling with some questions and left messages and never heard back. they send you all the details you need in your confirmation email, but i admit they are not very customer service oriented. I didn't try them via email though so that might be a better option. Overall, we had a WONDERFUL time! I was sooooo worried after reading all the reviews and was considering not even going but it was non refundable. I'm so glad I went and so glad I chose this place. It was a little old but it wasn't outdated and it was in a beautiful location. I would definitely rent here again!

This experience was beyond disappointing. My husband and I just got married and wanted a weekend away to relax and have a good time. First of all, there is literally no cell phone reception. Not even enough to look up directions on how to get anywhere, which you definitely need since everything is a half hour away! We called for the wifi password, which is absolutely useless since the wifi doesn't even connect. Secondly, the house smells like a high school wrestling room. The hot tub is absolutely disgusting and I would not even dare to put a toe in. We wanted to try sticking it out for the night since we paid $400+ and drove 2.5 hours. I'm not sure if the final straw was when I was washing my face in the bathroom and the brown water tasted like blood, or when I went to sit on the couch and little bugs jumped out and the smell of the fabric made me sick to my stomach. I'm not sure what did it for my husband. Maybe the fact that the beds are slanted, or that strange noises were coming from the locked closet. We didn't even last 3 hours. Please don't waste your time or money!!!

Literally a terrible experience. Old, run-down, smelly, dirty (pretty much what everyone else has said). Plus, the people running this place are terribly rude and unhelpful. Have I made it clear how terrible this place is?

This was by far our most terrible experience. Don't believe at the pictures ...they are deceiving....This place is really rundown and need lots of repairs...There is no mainetance at all and no matter what happened they won't answer your phone call , or voicemail or text or email.... No wood or bait and no close place to buy them...everything is half an hour away... There is no fish on the pond....just a waste of your time and money... Cabins are in terrible shape...very dirty and rundown. We had no heat in our cabin and paid for two nights and left after one night. Horrible place.

Roberts Ridge was a complete ripoff. There are so many other options. Run down, no internet and at least 30 min from the trails and tourist items. Very expensive for what we got. Very hard to get to and find. There was no cell connectivity FYI.

I didn't find these reviews until after we'd booked the cabin and I was a bit worried! We stayed at Charlie's Place (Emerald Cabin) for a weekend and it was a great experience. Everything was clean and tidy, all appliances in working order, and the cabin itself was safe and warm. The hot tub was delightful and large towels were provided. The lake behind the cabin was very pretty with the fall colors. As stated, there is absolutely no cell service. The kitchen is small but everything worked well and there were plenty of pots and pans as well as dining service. There was bottled water available, which was nice. A tea kettle would be a nice addition, but there is a coffee maker provided. The cabin is a bit off the beaten path, but that's what we were looking for. It was a great value for the rental cost. Whatever problems earlier reviewers had seem to be cleared up.

We stayed at Charlie's Place cabin and had a really good time. I have kids ages, 11, 13 and 15, and we all managed to stay busy. The cabin is adjacent to a small lake that has a row boat. The row boat was a bit defunct (we purchased a new boat plug to make it go, but it didn't go very far), but it added to the ambiance. A nice fire pit. A nice, clean hot tub. The cabin was darling and clean with one bedroom and two beds in a loft area (note there is a spiral staircase - which is great if you are into to that kind of thing. It was no problem for us, but might be an issue for some). Sleeps 4. There was a grill for cooking too, and all of the basics needed. We never could figure out the DVD player, but we managed because we weren't really around to watch too much TV. Also, as stated in their literature, there is NO CELL SERVICE. It looked like there was WIFI, but without service I couldn't contact the owner to find out the passcode. As it was, I was happy none of us could be on our devices honestly, but with 3 kids, if there were an emergency, it would be nice to have an emergency land line that is shared with all of the cabins in that enclave. In any event, we had no emergencies, and had a great time hanging out for a few days. We plan to return over the summer. So, all good! :-)
