The hostel itself is very big, spacious, clean and modern. However, the managers were so rude to us when we arrived, I was so appalled and nearly turned around and walked straight out!! Unfortunately it was already late so had nowhere else to go. The rate is very expensive $31 for a bed but $37 if you want a bed... More

The room is comfortable albeit smelling rather musty when we first walked in. Assuming it wasn't a busy period. Bed is very comfortable for backpackers standard. Everything is charged including stove which is quite off putting but we didn't use it anyways. Wi fi is a bit slow & considering there is no phone reception anywhere nearby,it's not helping.

Reasonably priced backpackers. Owners are very friendly and a wealth of information about the local area. Right next to a pub, bakery and bottle shop. Good sized kitchen and courtyard. It might be cold walking to the bathroom in winter though! Swansea is a good place to stay if you're planning to visit Maria island the next day.

After 6 days of camping, and in desperate need of a shower (warm one!) We needed to get out of the rain. First we went to Coles Bay however they were all booked out.... After another 30 min drive we came across the backpackers in Swansea, and I have to admit I'm absolutely blown away by this place and customer... More

My friends and I stayed here during January (peak season) and arrived to a very clean and quiet hostel. Also initially it seemed to be very pleasing (due to how modern and tidy it was), I felt as though I was back at school. The "free hour of WiFi" did not work for any of us with iPhones, and the... Cleanliness - solid. Rooms - cramped but well kept. Location - depends Service - a bit stern. Good for local knowledge. Value - ontop of room fees, you can be expected to pay for the following: Linen $6 15 min stove time $1 Washing $5 Watch DVD $2 (bear in mind it rains in tasmania) Pool table $2 Wifi 1hour... More

Clean place, a little bit expensive and the managers need to learn to smile. It is impossible to close the doors without making a lot of noise. This is quite annoying when sleeping in a dorm room. I suggest to go in Bicheno instead, you'll be closer to Freycinet National Park.

I got recommended this hostel by fellow travelers. Victor and Narelle (if I remember her new correctly) are wonderful people running the place, really nice and helpful. The hostel is really clean and seemed pretty empty when I was there, not many fellow travelers to talk to. In kitchen there's a sign telling that $1 buys you 15 minutes of... More

The owners are very helpful and lovely and all in all had a great experience! Don't be suprised if noones there- you need to ring. Very cheap and great for the money, but you have to pay for electricity on the stove. Wifi was free but very slow and linen was not the cleanest - only tiny negatives. Dorms are... More

We stayed in Swansea Backpackers on Friday 15th March. We was fortunate to have the whole hostel to ourselves. We was greeted by the most friendliest man I've ever met. He actually spent time talking to us about the hostel and certain areas in Tasmania. The hostel is very inviting and clearly very well kept. The bathrooms are great for... More
