We stayed in Pelican over a long weekend; the cottage was brilliant, the view so gorgeous. Our hosts were welcoming and generous. Once a day we'd go out to explore the nearby pretty fishing town of Stanley - but within a couple of hours were keen to get back to Beachside Retreat ... we just wanted to enjoy the rest... More

Thank you Marie S for completing a review of our property, which is very restful and relaxing as you mentioned. Pelican is our latest cabin and the furthest one away, of all the cabins, from the property homestead, but very close to the path to the beach. Hopefully we shall see you again soon, when we shall have our new... More

Visiting Stanley and staying at Beachside Retreat was one of the highlights of our trip to Tasmania. We had one of the best lunches at Touchwood Cafe and loved the shops. In particular Brown Dog and Providore 24. Well worth the effort. Enjoyed our stay at the Beachside Retreat. Wonderful environment, incredibly peaceful, amazing sunsets. Everything you need. Thanks to... More

Hi AlisonB, Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed staying on our peaceful, secluded property; it is a wonderful environment and we love to share it with others. Stanley is a lovely little village, with quite a range of shops, cafes and restaurants, for it's size. Looking forward to seeing you again in the future. Regards Janette More

All the previous reviewers have said most of which we wish to say, so I won't be boring and repeat. But scoring 5/5 for all aspects of the stay should tell its own story. We were looking for a nice wind-down to a 3 week trip and couldn't have chosen better. Loved the design, the eco aspects, the simplicity and... More

Hi MichE, Thank you for your review. We are pleased you achieved your final 'wind-down' on your three week trip and appreciated the unique cabin you stayed in. The cabins were specifically constructed to fit in with the environment and we employed the services of an environmental architect to make sure we did the right thing. Water charges and meters... We stayed four nights in oyster catcher in febuary. The cabin is full of everthing you could need to be self sufficient and a short walk leads you on to a amazing beach which I normally found deserted. You have access to laundry facilities and there is a washing line in the garden. The cabins are a short drive to... More

Hi uglygourd, Thank you for your review. We hope you enjoyed your stay in Oystercatcher and our lovely deserted beach. Stanley is a unique village to visit, with plenty of choices of good restaurants and coffee shops but it is often better to stock up with grocery lines before you arrive, if you intend to do a lot of cooking.... Our big mistake was to stay only two nights. The privacy, tranquility and comfort of outstandingly appointed accommodation in this beautiful environment deserved much longer. Deserted beaches, birdlife, flora and fauna, harvesting oysters from the rocks, evening walks etc all contributed to a satisfying feeling of well-being in such natural surroundings. Yet it's within easy reach of Stanley and not... More

Hi Scott O, Thank you for your review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay amongst the pristine environment here and appreciated everything that nature provided. We hope that you can stay longer, if you are ever in this part of the world again. Sandpiper and Oystercatcher ecocabins are exactly the same, but Sea Eagle and Pelican have more luxurious... More

Stayed for 2 nights in Sandpiper and loved every minute of our stay! Loved the view of the beautiful private beach from the deck of our cabin, it was so peaceful and relaxing. We loved the way that the all the ecocabins have been designed to fit in with the surroundings and everything was spotless inside and out. We used... More

Hi Shazza, Thank you for your review. We are glad you appreciated the unique ecocabin and enjoyed every minute of your stay. We purpose-built all the cabins, utilizing an environmental architect, who absolutely loved the natural beach site with its foreshore vegetation and was in her element. Stanley and the Nut are the jewels in the crown of the north... More

We had a 2 night stay in Oystercatcher cabin at Beachside Retreat, a beautiful one bedroom eco-cabin sited in a beautiful property. Attentive hosts and assistant. Hi Pollyanna, Thank you for your long descriptive review. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay in one of the environmentally-designed ecocabins. The heatwave conditions did not last long and are pretty rare in Stanley, with the temperatures now in the low 20's. Try one of the air-conditioned cabins, if you are ever this way again. We confine the beach... More

Stayed for 3 nights in february 2012 in "the Pelican". Really liked the place, excellent facilities and a lovely nature. We were blessed with good clear weather, which provided some fantastic star-lite nights. A must stay here place. Only draw back: too far from Denmark. More

Hi Hans, Thank you for your review. Glad you enjoyed your stay in Pelican, our latest cabin. The weather was very good too, which is always a bonus in Tasmania, with our fickle climate. I agree we are a long way from Europe, but where will you find pristine, deserted beaches, such as ours and such friendly natives? Tasmania takes... More

I agree with most of these reviews. Fantastic quiet, secluded location with wonderful views. Plenty of room and an 'interesting' ensuite bathroom in our Sandpiper cabin. We used it as a base to explore the area. Liked Stanley and climbed the Nut - the chairlift is currently closed and for sale. A good climb and great views once you get... More

Hi Turkey Baster, Thank you for your review. Glad you agreed with most of the other comments, which is very heartening. Apparently the Nut Chair Lift was only closed for one day, due to maintenance, and open the following day. Hi Charlie, Thank you for your review. So glad you enjoyed Sandpiper and took advantage of our natural environment. It certainly is a mecca for walkers. We are not great fans of oysters either; I think it must be an acquired taste! Hope to see you again, one day. Thank you for staying with us. Regards Janette More
