I stayed at this character accommodation when it first opened for business about 3 years ago. The experience was simply amazing, so I was really excited to be able to return for another visit recently. Unfortunately I was very disappointed this time round... I was the only person booked in on this night, being a week night in winter in... More

We chose to stay at @VDL Stanley for our 1 year anniversary and we chose perfectly. It was a wet and windy Friday night when we arrved. Our room key was sticky taped to the front door (quirky but loved it). We walked up stairs to our room (number 2 king suite) and noticed the foyer smelt amazing!! Our room... More

The days we visited Stanley were cold and windy. We didn't expect anything else in Tassie in winter. But the views around Stanley are breathtaking and this accommodation was warm and cosy and very comfortable, and the particular room (in a separate house) we were in had a great view. Loved the in-floor heating in the bathroom, and the quality... More

Stanley isn't the biggest place in the world and there really is a feeling of stepping back in time when you arrive. This carried over into our arrival @VDL - we got into town a little later than anticipated (4pm) to find an envelope attached to the reception door with our details on it, quirky but fine, I imagine you... Well appointed and very comfortable room. Couldn't fault the room. Like comments key taped to front door, which we felt was a quaint touch. Not often do your expectations get exceeded, but the did so here. Loved the standard of furnishing from the entry foyer to rooms. Congrats to the owners, keep up the high standard.

We stayed in King Loft 2, and it has a view, but only through a wide high window. It's a great location and beautiful building, which seems largely an extended showroom for the Brown Dog shop that exists for people with a lot of money to spend on bric a brac. It seems to have cleaners there constantly, but it's... More

Like previous reviews, our key was taped to the door, and we didn't get to meet anyone upon our arrival, this wasn't a problem as all of the instructions were pretty straight forward. Our room at The Base was great, quite spacious, contemporary, well thought out and had a great sized bathroom, very modern and sleek in design, we loved... More

Be very careful when you book the site does not make it clear that the Queen Rooms are in a cottage up the road! Quite who was more confused when we arrived at the property shown - us or the 3 Chinese families -who knew they had filled all the room - is debatable! Only after ringing the manager did... More

We arrived in Stanley late one afternoon, and after a phone call to announce our latish arrival, we collected an envelope taped to the front door containing our key. We discovered that the heating system was broken ( by a large note taped to the front) but no alternative was provided. The blinds were broken ( my husband fixed them) and... More

We stayed here for 2 nights. We stayed in a King suite upstairs. The living area and bathroom were very spacious. The king size bed was ultra comfy. The building has been magnificently restored and refurbished. Downstairs is a beautiful, contemporary lounge areas for the guests to partake of. Can walk to everything in Stanley. Would definitely recommend staying here.
