Was over here on business in Sorell so thought I would stay in the town to make it easier for me travel wise. I chose the Barracks because there are not that many other options and it didn't seem that bad from the photos and reviews. First impression as I drove down the street was "oh no this can't be... Yes, the Barracks is OLD, and some parts are a bit tight for four - BUT, it is an outstanding and HISTORIC place to stay. We (four adults) had the two-bedroom Spa apartment (BTW, the bathroom with spa bath and terrific shower is HUGE!!!), and after the first night (of two) we canceled the reservations for our last two nights... We stayed in the garden cottage. It was charming but - as other reviewers have noted - very small. Luckily the weather was quite cool, but it looked to me as if there would be a real problem if the weather was hot: I could not detect any form of air conditioning, or screens on the windows, and we were... A great change from motel style accommodation. We stayed in the cottage, beautifully decorated from a past era. The owner was very friendly and helpful and supplies an excellent breakfast basket. Only gripe was the room was very cramped and the shower very small. The gardens are beautifully maintained. The meals at the pub (Pembroke) around the corner are a... More

A beautiful place to stay. Decked out in colonial decor - I expected a ghost to appear at any time. Stayed in the cottage which was great. No stairs. Very comfortable - but a bit squashed. Not much room around the bed which took up most of the room.

I don't actually know what the rooms are like as we were turned away when we arrived on a tandem. We have been touring by bicycle for nearly 18 years through Europe, USA, Canada, NZ and Australia and this is the first time we have been refused accomodation. We found a friendly place to stay at the nearby pub

We stayed in room 4 for two nights. It is a ground floor room with two bedrooms. We loved: The breakfast basked being topped up every day was awesome, really hit the spot. The many antiques scattered around the rooms really add to the visit, as did the way the master bedroom was designed and decorated... The friendly owner. The... More

We stayed at the Barracks for one night only at the beginning of our Tassie tour. We selected the Barracks due to the close proximity to the airport and the reviews on Trip Advisor. A hugh thumbs up to the Barracks and also to Julie. The loft room was beautiful and the basket of breakfast goodies was very welcome and... More

This was an amazing place to stay, in a loft in the oldest building in Sorell. The room was adorable and so comfortable. Tea and coffee was available and it also had a microwave for convenience. The added stories about the building when we arrived all added to the magical experience

We stayed at Sorell Barracks for two nights at the conclusion of a 2 week holiday travelling around Tasmania. We had booked online and arrived late on a Friday afternoon. There was a note waiting for us with the key to say which room we had been allocated. We didn't see any sign of our hosts during the 2 nights... More
