Great place and very friendly service. Can recommend it as an interesting historical stay. Breakfast were good and the town is lovely. Make sure you visit Richmond! The rooms were decorately in line with the period of the building which was enchanting.

Stayed in the two bedroom spa suite (two couples).Great suite plenty of rooom for two couples, basket breakfast supplied more than adequate. Friendly host, value for money, great location close to shops and places to eat, a pub that offers the best "Parmies" in Tassie around the corner. Will stay again when next visiting Hobart.

It was nice to stay in a very old Barrack and think back to what it would have been like for the original inhabitants. However, there are gaps in most doors & windows, so I wouldn't stay here in winter. Nice for a couple but our family of four needed a little more space in the living area (bedrooms were... More

We came to Tasmania during peak season not realising that the Taste of Tassie as well as the Sydney to Hobart was on and accommodation was hard to come by. Then we found the Barracks at Sorell was available. What a golden find it was. Value for money, very comfortable, good location (close to places to eat), Coles & Woolworths... More

Greeted by a warm and friendly host to take us to our room, "the cottage". Keep in mind this premises dates back to 1827. Rooms are small but authentic, good bathrooms, good hot water. The bed was too small for my height, I am 6'1". Didn't really matter, the bed as with all furnishings added to authenticity, I was not... More

Was over here on business in Sorell so thought I would stay in the town to make it easier for me travel wise. I chose the Barracks because there are not that many other options and it didn't seem that bad from the photos and reviews. First impression as I drove down the street was "oh no this can't be... Yes, the Barracks is OLD, and some parts are a bit tight for four - BUT, it is an outstanding and HISTORIC place to stay. We (four adults) had the two-bedroom Spa apartment (BTW, the bathroom with spa bath and terrific shower is HUGE!!!), and after the first night (of two) we canceled the reservations for our last two nights... We stayed in the garden cottage. It was charming but - as other reviewers have noted - very small. Luckily the weather was quite cool, but it looked to me as if there would be a real problem if the weather was hot: I could not detect any form of air conditioning, or screens on the windows, and we were... A great change from motel style accommodation. We stayed in the cottage, beautifully decorated from a past era. The owner was very friendly and helpful and supplies an excellent breakfast basket. Only gripe was the room was very cramped and the shower very small. The gardens are beautifully maintained. The meals at the pub (Pembroke) around the corner are a... More

A beautiful place to stay. Decked out in colonial decor - I expected a ghost to appear at any time. Stayed in the cottage which was great. No stairs. Very comfortable - but a bit squashed. Not much room around the bed which took up most of the room.
