We have stayed here a few times now when visiting family in Devonport and are happy to make the 30km drive because it is so lovely. We stay in the beachfront suite which is very spacious and well set up for 3 guests. Breakfast is always plentiful and delicious and served with a smile. The road noise can intrude a... More

Suite1 (of 6), a first floor, front room was well appointed with wonderful tea/coffee facilities, fluffy towels and upmarket toiletries. A queen sized bed would have made this beach front room perfect. Breakfast both mornings was plentiful and enjoyable in the morning sunshine. Complimentary sherry and port in the intimate common lounge room was an unexpected pleasure. Amanda is a... More

We were looking for somewhere in North West Tasmania to be married. We loved the look of Penguin and were very impressed by the look of the Madsen for a place to stay. We booked the penthouse and our guests who had travelled from both interstate and overseas also booked rooms there. Everything about the accommodation and service was top... More

Last minute decision to stay in Penguin. So glad we did! We were lucky enough to choose the penthouse. Stunning! Nothing quite like having a few drinks on your private balcony overlooking Bass Strait! The spa has a birds eye view! Very luxurious. The owner was out when we arrived, and her daughter (sorry, I've forgotten names!) Checked us in.... More

We spent 2 nights here in a Deluxe room after several days in luxury at Cradle Mountain. Our arrival was friendly and the finer points of the hotel were pointed out to us by the host. The public rooms were well appointed with an honesty system for drinks as well as free plunger coffee available to all guests. The historic... More

We are glad you enjoyed your stay in Penguin. It is unfortunate you picked the Deluxe Room, the cheapest room that is ranked last on our website. You are correct in stating that room is not 4.5 stars. We have different ratings depending on the room, and since taking over in late 2011 we have constantly been upgrading the facilities... More

We stayed here on the 20th December on our way from Launceston to Cradle mountain. What a wonderful place, clean, friendly, and we had a wonderful ocean front view. Loved the free real coffee for plunger. Again we loved the honesty system for wine so you didn't have to trek too far. Our hosts were wonderful, helpful and friendly. We... More

We found this gem by accident, just walking by after a Sunday lunch. Booked for New Year's Eve, should have planned a longer stay... What a wonderful experience, Phil made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived. Modern, elegant and a beautiful view all added to the experience. The room was the cleanest I've ever experienced and well... More

Unfortunately we only stayed at The Madsen Hotel for one night, as it was a beautiful hotel. The room we had (beach view, ground floor) was spacious and very stylish, with a bank vault for a walk in closet, and the managers office for a bathroom. There was a luxurious spa bath, and a modern and spacious bathroom. There were... More

Having stayed here before a few years ago we were keen to see how it had fared with it's new owners. Previously we had stayed in the Penthouse and loved it. This time, unfortunately, it was already booked so we opted for the Beachfront Spa Suite. It is a lovely room. Great décor that matches the history of the old... More

Stumbled upon this place and booked the beachview spa suite and it was wonderful. Has it all, an amazing corner bath and king bed and has nice little touches like bath robes and free ground coffee plus a large tv and couch. Very stylish. Only minor issue you can hear a bit of road noise at night being right on... More

There is a trade-off between having the Beachfront Spa Suite’s five generous-sized windows overlooking gorgeous 210 degree seaviews and some traffic noise, particularly around rush hour at 6pm as locals rush for those last minute purchases in the two supermarkets that sandwich The Madsen before closure. Being a town of less than 4,000 inhabitants, the traffic quickly abates and the... More
