Wow. Friendly welcome, room overlooking beach (room 1) great touches like free dvds and decanter of port. Decor is contemporary and it's spotlessly clean. Common areas are very welcoming. The town of Penguin has a beautiful beach a market every Sunday and a few dining options. As a first overnight stop in Tasmania it's a great start. Definitely recommend.

Stayed at The Madsen for two nights in August 2014. Situated in the North West of Tasmania , the town of Penguin is quaint and pleasant. The Madsen , originally a bank building, is impressively situated facing the Bass Strait. We stayed in the Ocean Room which was fine.( As it was mid winter though it became quite cold at... More

I stayed at the Madsen with my wife and little boy for two nights. My wife was working for the day so I was welcomed by one of the owners, Amanda, who was exceptionally nice and helpful -- I called ahead to say my little boy was asleep in the car and was there a way I could take him... More

My partner and I stayed one night in the Penthouse. Friendly service from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We were shown to our room and explained how to operate all the gadgets, very helpful. Free DVD hire with a variety of movies to choose from. Breakfast included in rate, you order in the evening and we... More

Had a couple of nights in the Penthouse. Middle of winter and just cosy. The decor is stunning with all the recent mods and cons. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Not much to do in Penguin but a great place to relax. One morning we enjoyed breakfast downstairs and the next in our room. Food was great and... More

We have stayed here a few times now when visiting family in Devonport and are happy to make the 30km drive because it is so lovely. We stay in the beachfront suite which is very spacious and well set up for 3 guests. Breakfast is always plentiful and delicious and served with a smile. The road noise can intrude a... More

Suite1 (of 6), a first floor, front room was well appointed with wonderful tea/coffee facilities, fluffy towels and upmarket toiletries. A queen sized bed would have made this beach front room perfect. Breakfast both mornings was plentiful and enjoyable in the morning sunshine. Complimentary sherry and port in the intimate common lounge room was an unexpected pleasure. Amanda is a... More

We were looking for somewhere in North West Tasmania to be married. We loved the look of Penguin and were very impressed by the look of the Madsen for a place to stay. We booked the penthouse and our guests who had travelled from both interstate and overseas also booked rooms there. Everything about the accommodation and service was top... More

Last minute decision to stay in Penguin. So glad we did! We were lucky enough to choose the penthouse. Stunning! Nothing quite like having a few drinks on your private balcony overlooking Bass Strait! The spa has a birds eye view! Very luxurious. The owner was out when we arrived, and her daughter (sorry, I've forgotten names!) Checked us in.... More

We spent 2 nights here in a Deluxe room after several days in luxury at Cradle Mountain. Our arrival was friendly and the finer points of the hotel were pointed out to us by the host. The public rooms were well appointed with an honesty system for drinks as well as free plunger coffee available to all guests. The historic... More

We are glad you enjoyed your stay in Penguin. It is unfortunate you picked the Deluxe Room, the cheapest room that is ranked last on our website. You are correct in stating that room is not 4.5 stars. We have different ratings depending on the room, and since taking over in late 2011 we have constantly been upgrading the facilities... More
