We recently stayed at Woodbridge on the Derwent for a well-earned break and to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The blend of history, comfort and good old-fashioned hospitality courtesy of John and his great staff made this a long weekend to remember for us. The great location provided plenty of options for captivating and enjoyable day trips. Meals were excellent... More

Thank you for a great review Rob L. My apologies for the late reply - Woodbridge closes over the winter, and we have been on a break. We are so happy that you enjoyed your 30th anniversary with us, and here's to many more to come! You are correct when you note that there is so much to see and... More

A wonderfully restored old house in New Norfolk which has 8 rooms. Everything is of the best and dinner may be arranged and breakfast is also served here. The dining area looks over the Derwent a River. We were lucky to see a platypus by the bank of the river. If you want a special place to stay this is... More

Thank you, Pat T, for your review, and for the wonderful appreciation that you showed for the restoration of Woodbridge. As K.T. said, it was a mammoth undertaking to save the place - now we have the even greater challenge of securing her future by consolidating her place as Tasmania's finest historic luxury accommodation. We are so glad that you... More

We stayed for two nights in this wonderful hotel and wished that we had booked for longer. The room was large and beautifully furnished, looking out over the river Derwent. The bed was particularly comfortable and we slept well. Access to the reading room and the sitting room was a delightful extra. The overall impression was one of elegance especially... More

Thank you for the compliment, conblue. We think that Woodbridge is an elegant stylish lady also, and given that she is authentic Tasmanian history, she is quite special. Yes, John and I have travelled to Europe every couple of years since 1971, with the inevitable osmosis. We have taken 'things that we loved' from favourite hotels all over the world,... More

We had a great 3 days with John and his wife at this very well restored old house on the Derwent The town of New Norfolk (although one of the oldest towns in Australia after Sydney and Hobart ) is still locked away in the early 1900's and is not a great tourist attraction There are good walks along the... Yes, Rowan R, we also felt like we had slipped into a time warp back to the 1950s when we first encountered New Norfolk, but in some ways, that is part of the charm - it is so genuine, not a tourist construct but authentic Tasmania. And as you realised, there is so much to enjoy outside of the town,... More

We stayed three nights and loved ever moment! The staff were extremely caring and committed to providing the very best of service. The food was delicious at both breakfasts and dinners and the accommodation was excellent. Will definitely return. Jo & Murray Melbourne.

Dear Jomurray2015 Thank you for your 'Brilliant!' review, and thank you particularly for taking the time to write your first review. Reviews are an important reality of the hospitality businesses - we listen, we reflect and we continue to try to delver the best that we possibly can. It is especially gratifying for all at Woodbridge when our efforts are... More

Listed as 5 star by Small Luxury Hotels of the World, we were almost immediately left questioning that rating. The website and photo gallery show a lovely, restored manor house, nestling on the river bank amid rolling green hills and trees. What they don't show is the main highway passing immediately adjacent to the property, or the major bridge which... More

Dear EilselNoDrog Yes, it was apparent as soon as you arrived that Woodbridge was not what you were expecting. That was why we offered an immediate cancelation and full refund. To our surprise, you chose to stay the night, and then, even more surprising, the next morning you requested to stay a second night, so we were happy that you... More

We stayed there for the NYE...Nice small hotel on the river. The rooms are cute, the hotel of course close at 9, but at least they leave you wine, coffe, water, tea, beer, snacks in the living room area. So if you need something you can help yourself. They give the feeling of a house with more guests. The dinner... More

Dear Jaquelinne We are delighted that you 'will return'. We would love to share more of our beautiful Derwent Valley with you next time. We are glad you enjoyed the sense of abundance! Woodbridge was one of the first grand homes in Tasmania, and the early families established a reputation for generosity and hospitality. As an hotel, Woodbridge continues that... More

We spent 7 days at WoodBridge on the Derwent and we encountered a very small luxury hotel of the world. But still we did not regret one moment! The food was great! Spent one night in this marvellous place. This hotel is a must for anyone who visits Tasmania and who wants to experience a breathtakingly beautiful view, an excellent service which could better be expressed as a warm taking care of, a famous dinner in an absolutely gorgeous little restaurant. On top of all the situation of the Woodbridge on Derwent... More

The focus of our long weekend was the agrarian experience. The Woodbridge location was ideal for this and the Woodbridge website was most enticing. On arrival, the place was much smaller than envisaged. A welcoming cup of tea and tour of the main house was good. Significant rising damp in the lower quarters, disappointing dinners and the sound of traffic... More

Dear Leonie L Yes, Woodbridge is a VERY Small Luxury Hotel indeed. An 1825 riverfront mansion, she has 39 rooms, but accommodates a maximum 16 persons in only 8 rooms and suites. The old building techniques evident in Woodbridge are very interesting, and part of what makes this Heritage Listed property a unique hotel. They did not use damp courses... More
