Based on Tripadvisor reviews, we booked in to this quaint, unique B & B for 3 nights in January. On arrival we were immediately surrounded by a plethora of antiques, historical documents, and items sourced from convicts. Quite different from most B & B's in Australia. Our room was quiet and comfortable with many nice touches, including the free sherry and... More

The host, Lydia, comes from Essex in UK so we had a specially warm welcome as fellow Brits. Every aspect of the place is unique, from its setting within an antiques business and heritage home (open to public) to the complimentary port and sherry decanters in each of the three rooms. Breakfast choice is continental or cooked buffet (bacon, eggs,... More

Lydia, our host, was very welcoming and friendly. Colony Inn is within easy walking distance to the main street of New Norfolk, which offers good facilities for a small country town. We stayed one night in the Courtney Suite, described as having "panoramic views of the (river) Derwent, which is why we chose this inn. The view was disappointing, more... More

After many so-called B&B experiences, this one sets the standard. Old-world charm mixed with well appointed rooms and a welcoming vibe is refreshing. The decor is.... Eclectic, a mix of antiques and curiosities makes this place an attraction in itself.

Very comfortable bed, beautiful gardens, interesting buildings, gracious hosts and fabulous food. You have to let Lydia cook for you! Short walk to the centre of town or down to the river. When you dine you are surrounded by antiques and Tasmanian memorabilia. Very pleasant sipping wine and browsing a book in front of the wood fire.

Old Colony Inn has been a haven for us over the past few months. Lydia is the most wonderful host and a great chef. It is a must to have her cook your dinner while staying here. Breakfasts are equally as good! Nothing is too much trouble for Lydia, and James is the life of the party. Such a wonderful... More

Some of the rooms that form the ground floor area of this lovely old Inn are dated to convict construction in 1815 and others also convict built in 1835. There are artefacts from this time in Tasmanian history adorning the comfortable and warm dining area. Lydia is an exceptional cook and the Menu is varied, very appetising and generous and... More

We stayed for a night but would have loved to stay longer. Lydia cooked us a superb meal after we called saying we wouldn't get there until 8pm & mentioned we hadn't had dinner. The history of the buildings is preserved & complemented by the interior and the quirky furnishings. The antiques, crockery, photographs, historical accounts all add to a... More
