This estate is in a picturesque part of northern Tasmania. And, Brickendon (another World Heritage site) is just down the road. It is one of the most complete 19C estates that were developed using convict labour. I would highly recommend a tour of the house as this is the only opportunity you have of seeing the interior of the house.... More

Had a wonderful evening staying in A cottage at Woolmers (the fireplace was so good on a cold night). Did a self guided walk around tour by ourselves with a glass of wine when we got there after hours ... Very serene ... Even got followed by some curious chooks. Had the official house tour in the morning and brunch... More

These old cottages have been renovated while at the same time still seem like the real thing. They are World heritage listed so have retained the original structures. They are 2 storey so not good for people who can't climb stairs but apart from that, I couldn't find one other negative. We lit the fire in the lounge which kept... More

Stayed in the Oak cottage on the historic Woolmers estate. Quaint room but well appointed with modern conveniences. Slow combustion stove was a nice touch. Once the tourists left in the afternoon the estate was very quiet. Was able to go for a walk after dinner through the rose gardens. Ordered the dinner and breakfast hamper from the Estate cafe... We stayed one night in Willow cottage recently, and found it a delightful experience with a strong historic vibe. It was cosy, comfortable, quiet and clean. Having read some poor reviews by recent visitors I was apprehensive...would it be dirty and isolated, as others had reported. No, our visit went very smoothly. We loved the attic bedroom with twin beds... More

Gardener's Cottage is a charming gingerbread house in a picturesque Victorian Gothic style built to decorate the driveway to the house. It is some way from the other cottages on the site giving complete privacy. Careful restoration offers comfortable, characterful accommodation. Sadly the gardener had not been in evidence for a while so there were no flowers to enjoy. We... More

Very nearly didn't go to Woolmers Estate which is a World Heritage listed convict site, due to its website saying it was closed, which could have turned a few people away. However, we were driving past anyway so decided to drop in and found it open to our delight. An interesting tour was taken with the volunteer tour guide who... More

Woolmers is very isolated but initially we thought that could make for a good experience--instead it was only one disappointment after another. the staff were friendly when we first got there but the troubles started when we arrived at the cottage and had a 5 minute struggle to open the door! once inside we found the barren and dirty rooms... We stayed the night in the Coach House, which is self contained/self catering. Very comfortable and spacious. The estate is great for country walks, particularly along the river. The house is full of interesting historical pieces and there is a nice little café there as well.

A very historical area to visit. We chose the Gardeners Cottage for a romantic mid-week getaway and we were very disappointed. Aware that mid winter is not ideal to view the beautiful gardens at this property we were looking more for the romance of the accommodation on offer. The cottage was very cold as the fire had not been lit,... More
