The Saltwater Shack at Freycinet Eco Retreat was very secluded … up a three mile (4 km) gravel road near the top of Mt. Paul off the Coles Bay Road to Freycinet National Park. It had large rooms with a separate king size bedroom and a well-equipped kitchenette. We loved the pot bellied wood stove. The owner Virginia came over... More

We stayed here for five nights in March 2012. This cottage is really something special – and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. As the reviews suggest, you are really away from it here. The cottage is totally on its own. There are also the two other eco-lodges on the property, probably about half a mile away as the crow flies... More

My wife and I stayed in the Saltwater Shack, which is an isolated self-contained shack separate from the main retreat. It is a restored shack with an artificial wetland in front of it and a vista through to the ocean. Possibly a shame the trees were knocked down to create the wetland and the vista, but it was possibly done... More

We're very glad that you enjoyed the unique nature of Saltwater Shack. We think, however, that where you comment on the fact that you believed that we had had bulldozers in to remove trees (the implication we took to being that we are not, therefore, somehow "eco") you may have misunderstood the situation on the ground. The whole of Mt... More

As other reviewers have commented, the location at the top of a hill overlooking the Hazards and Great Oyster Bay is superb. Watching the sun set from our balcony was a highlight. Lovely comfortable fit out. Only disappointments were the poor quality of the kitchen implements (cheap small wineglasses, no large saucepan for pasta, uneven frying pan etc). Very private,... More

This place is fabulous and has plenty of wow factor. We saw all manner of wildlife including a wombat and a small Joey learning to hop on Christmas Day. Very special. Feels luxurious inside even though it is all very simple. Just lovely. Only drawback was having to wash up throughout our three day stay. Most self catering for this... More

Although we have lived in Tassie for over 40 years we have never encountered a property like Freycinet Eco Retreat and were just blown-away by the standard of this haven. It's quite incredible that such luxury is available in an area so peaceful, private, remote and beautiful with over 1200 acres of land to explore, knowing you are unlikely to... More

We had the pleasure of two magical nights staying in one of the eco lodges. The serenity and sense of total isolation immediately command attention, in fact it's hard to tear your eyes away from the stunning bush surrounds and view of the hazards and water in the distance. Inside the lodge we found simple luxury, everything you need to... More

An essential, truly Australian experience What a brilliant spot! We spent two nights and had the most relaxing and enjoyable time. The view is absolutely amazing and the lodge perfectly equipped to just stay in, cook and savor the moment! Fantastic just for two or you could possibly rent out the other lodge and cottage at the same time for... More

We stayed in the Saltwater Shack, quite separate from the Lodges. In fact, so separate, you really get the feeling of being isolated from the rest of the world. The shack is small and comfortable with some lovely areas for sitting and enjoying the surroundings - you can start on the deck outside, then move into the 'sun room' and... More

We're really happy that you enjoyed your stay at Saltwater Shack. We certainly feel that it offers something pretty unique in terms of solitude and a true wilderness experience, but in reasonable comfort. As far as the shower is concerned - we should probably explain that the water pressure is low for two reasons - first of all because we... More

Two nights at the Freycinet Eco Lodge was a splurge, but definitely worth it. We were lucky that the other lodge (there are only 2) was empty, so we had the incredible view and all the wallabies to ourselves. The accommodation was great: really smart kitchen, contemporary bathroom with an enormous walk-in shower, and every room had amazing views over... More

We are glad this client, like many, thought the accommodation and location were incredible, but we are concerned that they felt the shine was taken off by some minor aspects. As the creators, builders and operators of this unique eco accommodation, we are personally concerned to maintain and improve our product so that clients have the best possible experience, and...
