Nicely located country pub - however not a great place to stay. Postives - clean room and comfy bed Negatives - very cold both in the evening and morning. Heating either off or not working - staff just seemed bemused by the concept of central heating,or indeed lighting the fire in the bar. - food order wrong, how difficult is it... More

How very sad that the Chequers has changed hands yet again. We live locally and have been regular diners over many years, like Bernie C it has been our bolt hole. This beautiful pub has over the past 5 years changed management more times than we can remember. Under Simon's brilliant stewardship we hoped at last the pub had found... More

It's been years since I visited this pub and used to do so regularly. If I recall correctly, they were known for a suet pudding that had a Union Jack flag on it - it was huge and I don't think I ever made it. Anyway, by overhearing the next table, the pub / restaurant is under new ownership...no big... More

The Chequers has always been mine and hubbys little bolt hole for a lovely night away. We were shocked to see Simon gone and the pub gone down the pan this Saturday!! We arrived to be shown the wrong room, I had to go downstairs to ask for coffee and toilet roll, there was none in our room. Hubby then... More

Before I pull his pub apart the girls who work here are very professional and couldn't really do their jobs any better. To echo a previous customer, the food here is barely edible and the price is high. When this company "Mountain Range" took over there had previously been a pretty consistent chef and the food has been good in... More

We live a few miles from this pub and will not be going back until they change their chef!! The girls behind the bar are fantastic but the quality of food was poor. I've had better from a burger van !!! Tried to speak to the chef, but he was extremely rude.

My wife and I arrived on a Saturday in late October having booked a room at the last-minute due to a business meeting I had in the area on the Sunday. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome by the owners (lovely couple) and were shown to the Grey Goose room (a double bedroom) Once alone we unpacked... More

Recent alterations to the M23 made it a little difficult to find in the dark on a rainy day, but well worth it. The accommodation is comfortable and clean. It is 3 star so luxury was not expected, but it is well above basic. The staff are pleasant and helpful. I enjoyed a good night's sleep and a generous and... More

We've had a mixed bag over the past few years from the restaurant but we had another stab at it under the new owners and very much enjoyed our pierrade 'hot stone' meal. We all had steak and it would be our own fault if the meat was overcooked - this is a DIY bbq - but the quality of... More

This, once brilliant restaurant with rooms, has become nothing more than a sad, imitation of a pub/restaurant/hotel. It has recently been taken over by Mountain Range Restaurants, who, apart from not bothering to announce anywhere that they are the new owners, have done absolutely nothing to even attempt to restore this fabulous iconic local hostelry to its former glory. There... More
