We stopped for a drink and a bite to eat, before heading for a walk up Box Hill. The pub is located on the main road of the village across the road from the church of Mickleham. Plenty of outdoor seating in this traditional pub, but we decided to stay outdoors, considering there were two wedding at the church just... More

Stopped here, as we have done many times before, during a family walk. This is a traditional country pub that over the years has become a bit more of a restaurant. Certainly the beer is well kept and there is a decent range, the lunchtime food offering is sufficiently varied and the quality is good but it is probably all... More

Stayed for one night recently. Paid £110 for a tired old room which smelt very musty. Loads of flies flying around for some reason. Poor breakfast - poached eggs were more like hard boiled. Would have happily paid around £60 but at nearly double that, it was well over priced.

We went there after a lovely walk expecting a typical country pub. The ambience was nice but dusty and the food was good. What was very disappointing was the service. It was slow despite there being two men behind the bar and only us and another customer waiting to be served. I had to remind the barman three times about... More

A nice looking Inn in a lovely village. Whilst the restaurant food was very good the place is let down by the rather tired interior in the other areas. I stayed there and the bed was comfortable and the room clean. The sash windows are desperate for repair and a coat of paint, and there was a feel to the... More

As you enter this traditional pub, you would not believe it had such a lovely dining room. The pub area isn't great - bit old and run down. Enter the restaurant and enter a different world of sophistication and service. Wines very good. Waldorf salad as a starter was crisp and fresh. Pan seared bream was superb on a beet... More

The Running Horses is one of my all time favourite pubs. A bar lunch there in the Winter, if you can get a seat by the fire, is simply brilliant. I have always found the staff to be smart, courteous and helpful and the food has always delivered. The restaurant has been a special place to eat for many years,... More

We just visited today with friends for a couple Sunday drinks and lunch, considering the weather was good. It's a lovely little place with plenty of history and character. There is outside seating too which we took advantage of. The staff are friendly, attentive, smartly-dressed and professional. The food was really good too. A real treat it was, and we'll... More

I work in dorking frequently, however my usual haunts were fully booked! In need of a place to stay I had to go off the beaten track. I picked the place because of the user rating and place looked pretty. Arrived after work and staff was swift and carried my bag to the room. The room cost £125 and honestly... More

Staff wear neat uniforms, are polite to customers, and provide excellent service - pretty rare qualities in this day and age. The beer was well kept, and when one of the barrels finished, staff ushered us back to our table, and brought across the beer once the new barrel was on. We had a variety of hot and cold food,... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Running Horses is a perfect country inn at the heart of picturesque Mickleham village in the Surrey hills. Step inside and you’ll discover one of the most charming places to eat and stay in Surrey. Dating back to the 16th century, it was once a coaching house. Back in those days, the inn’s clientele provided rich pickings for highwaymen. Thankfully, things are a little more peaceful these days, but some traditions live on. You’ll still find wonderful home-cooked British food, made with the freshest ingredients, accompanied by a wine list to compare with the top restaurants. The Running Horses has been family owned and run for the last fifteen years. And because we’re not part of a chain, the inn is full of character and individual touches. You’re guaranteed a warm welcome from the moment you enter the cosy bar with its roaring log fire. ... more   less
