Was let down by an overbooking at my original choice nearby so was not given much option of where to stay. Basically a pub with rooms. My room was very clean and no issues. Also well furnished by a local fair trade furniture supplier and I ended up buying something there too. Evening meal was perfectly acceptable and breakfast (included)... More

We stayed as part of a wedding group and it very quickly became obvious that the venue has got so much potential but is very poorly managed, (if at all). Our room looked out into a forecourt that had young local drinkers screaming and shouting until gone 1am. No effort was made to ask them to keep their voices down... More

Needed an overnight stay around Gillingham for work, it happened to be the Glastonbury weekend too. Lots of locations around and about were too pricey or too far from Gillingham. I settled for the Dolphin and booked B&B in a single room for £49. Pretty good? On arriving at the Dolphin I was informed that they only served breakfast from... More

We booked 5 rooms as part of a wedding party thinking it was a local hotel for an evening stay. When we arrived, it was a typical pub with grotty carpets and very very dated rooms. We literally dropped our bags before the wedding. On our return we were greeted with a shed load of drunken kids outside which was... More

I stayed at the Dolphin a couple of years ago. The room is spacious with a desk and a very good modernized both room and shower. We bought dinner which was good. The included breakfast was fine but nothing special. Quibbles are a used towel behind the bathroom door, wifi that needed restarting the router frequently and seeing rubbish between... More

Went to a christening held in the stables food was lovely fresh & well thought out! The stables are a warm welcoming cosy place to hold a family gathering & the staff were very helpful! Had there been a functioning bar inside instead of over in the public bar itself it would have been perfect!

After reading various reviews, we decided to book into The dolphin. We found the bad reviews to be unfounded. Ok the room we had was in the small side, but you only sleep in it. the bed linen/towels etc were pristine, as was the cleanliness of the room. The food was excellent, and my husband said that breakfast was the... More

From the outside the Dolphin looks a little tired and inside it also looks a bit gloomy and tired but, although the hotel is very old, it was lovely and warm and the bedroom was good and the bathroom very good. We had a meal in the dining room which was again very good. Certainly a hotel to be tried... More

We stayed one night at The dolphin while in Wincanton for the horse racing. Our room was a good size with an obviously new shower room. First impressions at this hotel are not good. The surrounding area is very tired looking. Hallway, stairs and room carpet all stained where people had clearly spilt drinks. Apart from that the room was... More

Second time staying at this hotel, 12 months on, and have to say the bedrooms and bathrooms are looking a little tired, when after an £18 increase on room rates is not good. The staff behind the bar are very friendly and helpful, as is the manager when you phone in. I requested wheat-free and dairy-free options for meals but... More
