My wife and I stayed here for two days between Christmas and New Year. The place was wonderful - set in large open grounds with deer in the fields. The room was large and well appointed and I loved the common areas with warm cosy sofas and fireplaces. They were able to recommend a few good pubs for dinner each... more

Charming, small country house in beautiful, peaceful setting and lovely communal rooms. We got a last minute booking for one night and so ended up with a larger bedroom than we would normally have been offered for the price. Overall we were pleasantly surprised with the experience. Nice touches such as bottled water in bedroom and chocolates on pillow. However,... more

We got a late deal with lastminute to stay here, and chose it as it was so close to Bath (£19 by taxi to avoid taking the car) and a very reasonable rate. We had an excellent time, despite us checking in rather late, the staff were more than friendly & helpful. The bedroom was spacious & comfortable, and my... more

Wanted a night away with the other half and thought we would try the county house thing. Our suite overlooked the front of the house and dear ran around in the field 20 yards away. Our suite was very nice and well apointed and the room service was very good and attentive. We didn't eat in the restaurant as we... more

The hotel has very recently been taken over by von Essen hotels and I suspect this is a very good thing. Currently the hotel and grounds are a bit shabby and run down and the place and fittings do need upgrading. That aside, the house is beautiful, it is in a wonderful location and the staff in general are excellent... more

Stayed here for one night. Lovely location. Charming buildings. Good food. Grounds a bit unkempt. Staff friendly enough but senior staff amazingly incompetent - reception ordered wrong newspaper; when asked for a recommendation for dinner the waiter first recommended beef (there was no beef on the menu) then duck (which he had just told us was not available); we had... more

The hotel has a fantastic setting with wonderful open views across the West Country towards Bath. The food is good also. The big let down was the attitude of the staff. They are grumpy and generally unhelpful and on one occasion one member of senior staff was extremely rude and aggressive toward my wife and 3 young children. The closest... more

We stayed at Hunstrete House for two nights in early July 2007. Apart from rather miserable weather, our stay was excellent. Hunstrete is a classic example of the English country house hotel: very comfortable, very good food, pleasant and willing staff, in beautiful surroundings, and, in this case, close to the many sights of Bath. It is also a good... more

We stayed here as guest at a wedding, what a lovely, small personal hotel. We rushed in (running late, it takes long than you think to get there from London) and the chap checking us in was totally understanding and gave us our key with the minimum of fuss. Room was a standard double, very large, plenty of hanging space.... more

With regards to the review dated 10 april, i'd like to state that i have been a regular at Hunstrete House for a good many years and can honestly say i'v never come across a 'non' english speaking receptionist, they are mainly local girls. I infact had a party here in late January and had a very delightful experience. more
