Fancy a bit of shabby chic in the perfect location? The Smithfield is not a perfect modern hotel, but the rooms are good, plenty of parking and the breakfast was great. We stayed over the Mayday weekend and enjoyed every minute. Our hosts were lovely and we would stay again. Bar opening times weren't clear and we couldn't catch the... More

Easy to find and lots of parkingat the hotel, right in the centre of Oswestry. Room was good and clean with all the facilities you would expect. Collette was extremely friendy and helpful and we had an excellent breakfast cooked to order.

We stayed Easter weekend. I had read previous reviews and thought we'd give it a shot as the location for our stay was fantastic. I 'm glad we did. We had 2 rooms on the top floor, both double as we were with friends. At £60.00 a night per room with breakfast, i couldnt fault the place. The bedrooms were... More

From the outside the hotel appears grubby and unkempt. The chalk sign was advertising Easter Sunday meal! We where there May bank holiday. However we where met by Colette the manager who was friendly and polite and asked what time we would like breakfast. She showed us to our room and explained that she'd need to put up a second... If you're staying in Oswestry and don't want to drink & drive, this is the perfect location. The rooms were bright and clean, and comfortable. What lets it down is the 'working pub' atmosphere. But there are plenty of good eateries close by. Breakfast was OK but I would prefer the waitress to concentrate on serving the food rather than... More

The room was absolutely filthy. Initially, I was perturbed by the dirty, worn carpet but tried to remain open minded. I attempted to get into the bed and was horrified to find a previous guests pubic hair scattered across the bed sheet! I reported this to reception and a staff member checked the room who thus informed me that the... More

I booked this as a last minute place so we didn't have to drive home late and the Premier Inn was fully booked. I liked the look of the black and white pub and we just love old crooked places. Unfortunately that part of the hotel was shut up - due to being quiet at this time of year -... More

First thing that hits you is you have to enter a crowded bar to book in, so no reception. Another strange habit is they expect payment at the start of the stay. Smell of drains on the ground floor! Things do improve once you have struggled up narrow stairs to your room. Room was clean, although not cleaned and bed... More

No reception, dirty carpets poorly stocked bar, poor staff attitude and no wine by the bottle..It was boxes of Sainsburys wine only by the glass.(They have a restaurant for goodness sake. This was a good place when it first opened..now..what a dive.

We have just returned from Smithfield. And would not advise anyone to stay there. No reception, only the bar area, were given keys and found our own room. Went up first flight of stairs and the carpet was filthy and a awful smell of sewerage! The room was clean, the duvet cover was on inside out, who ever put it... More
