A lovely room with a fine view to the hills: the location above a valley which divides England from Wales is memorable. All we lacked on a January evening was the beautiful sunset! Comfortable lounge with roaring fires, which with a scone and cup of tea in hand after a day's walking on Offa's Dyke was near perfect. The restaurant... More

Imagine the scene - the decorators are in our home and we need to escape for some serious R&R. It's a freezing cold day, snow is on the tops of the hills and then suddenly the car heating system decides to give up the ghost while we are on our way to The Pen-y-Dyffryn Hotel. We arrive mightily cold and... More

Myself and husband came here as a late anniversary break. We did get lost once trying to find the hotel but we got there in the end. The hotel is a country house set in the middle of the countryside and is very peaceful. Very scenic, surrounded by fields and hills and ideal for country walks. On arriving at the... More

Two nights in a lovely, private room in the coach-house (annexe). Easy parking. Access to room up outside steps is a bit tricky (in the snow), but I had been adequately warned when booking and I will chose these rooms again as they are private & quiet. Tiny TV on the wall and not really any music options in the... More

Spent 3 nights here for New Year celebrations. A wonderful location, despite the wind and rain, we had a great time here. Spent many happy hours by the log fires, putting the world to rights and enjoying the lovely company of staff and residents. Dog friendly, lots of walks, numerous places to visit and wonderful cuisine. It was perfect in... More

4 men out for a Tuesday dinner whilst the ladies were eating elsewhere. Easy to find with care. 'Out in the Sticks'. Easy parking. Front door up steps by the car park. This is an old characterful country house. Pre drinks and menu choices in the lounge with a lovely fire. Eight diners in all. The other 4 were residents.... More

Have been coming here for 10 years and never tire of this fantastic hotel This was a special birthday for me so all my family also came and we occupied a number of the rooms. This was without doubt the best birthday I ever had. On arrival the hotel had left me a present of champagne in my room. All... More

Lovely converted and expanded old Rectory in wonderful country in Shropshire right on the Welsh border. The staff looked after our party of 22 superbly, served a excellent dinner to us all with good wine. Humour and attentiveness never failed. Beds v comfy and rooms great. Dogs very welcome too. Not sure we want "Peny" to become too popular, too... More

Believed that we were staying in the hotel itself. But when we arrived on Friday evening we had been put in the annex further up the steep hillside. It was dusk and raining hard, and the annex was up steep steps that were lethal in the rain. There was also a steep drop away from the pathway that was also... More

We have stayed ay the Pen-y-Dyffryn threee times now and if there is one thing consistent about this characterful small hotel it is the stunning food. Never diappointed yet, absolute quality and beautifully presented. Nice rooms in the main house - could possibly do with a little updating but overall very comfortable and clean. A wonderful place to stay and... More
