Lovely setting with lots of pretty secret places to sit in the beautiful garden. Jan and John were gracious hosts with loads of local knowledge. The weather was variable but it didn't dampen our spirits. We are looking forward to our re visit soon.

We stayed in the Zen chalet. The chalet is very comfortable. There is plenty of space and it is clean and modern, but unfortunately no shower, only a bath, although there is a shower attachment on the bath taps but it was not possible to stand up to use it for fear of drenching the floor. There is a bit... More

Thankyou for truthfully, reviewing "The Zen". Your comments have been taken on board and the new boiler( which is where the noise was coming from, as it kept the water up to temp) is being fitted with a timer to switch off at night! Unfortunately, there is not enough headroom for a stand up shower, but guests are welcome to... More

We stayed in the Zen chalet, with it's own garden, for a week (and added an extra day as we were having so much fun), and found loads to do. We went on cycling, went to town (both in the day and out in the night for dinner and a drink), went on some walks up nearby Sweeney Mountain and... More

The care and time you gave made it a wondeful experience, nothing was too much trouble and you made my stay special. Thoroughly enjoyed your Japenese garden. The food was holesome, nutrious and varied. The homemade quiche was a speciality of the week.!!! You made it feel like home. Hope to come again and experience your hospitalality. Nestled on the border of the beautiful Shropshire/Welsh countryside. A super B&B with terrific accomodation. Stayed in the Zen suite, detached from the main house and located in it's own tranquil, oriental style garden with a running stream. Terrific breakfast came with fresh eggs provided from the free roaming hens. We even got to hold two very tame chicks being... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Situated 3 miles south of Oswestry on the scenic Welsh border, Hafod is an ideal place from which to explore the secrets of Shropshire and the ruggedness of Snowdonia. Ideal for nature lovers, gardeners, walkers cyclists and bikers. We've also hosted business people who wanted a peaceful spot to work from! The Zen is a double bedded, self catering Chalet, with private Oriental garden, summerhouse, Koi pond and seating area. A babbling brook runs past the bedroom window! We also offer a motorhome/caravan super-pitch with all amenities including a power shower and toilet right next door. This is occasionally shared with one other couple only. Situated in it's own private garden with patio and furniture, guests can enjoy their privacy and a child free break. No footballs or flying frisbies! Apart from two pubs there are bus routes on the doorstep and plenty of interesting walks. Limestone escarpments (area SSI)and cliffs where buzzards and peregrine falcons nest, local bluebell woods and old quarries where rare butterflies and orchids abound are here to be explored. Offas Dyke, Iron age hill forts, Roman mines and canal tow paths are within walking distance. England's Oldest Timber framed church and countryside that time forgot.... that's the best description of this area! 3 NT properties closeby, also historic Shrewsbury and Chester. ... more   less
