Lovely pub and nice staff but the food could have been better - small portions! There was no bread with the soup, very small pate starter, plates were lukewarm, but the food, especially the roast potatoes was cold, we had to request all the meals to be re-heated in the microwave! Roast meals should be hot - I can only... More

We were visiting family in the area for a wedding evening and chose to stay at the Horse & Jockey. Charles Gaunt contacted us prior to our visit to see if food would be required as they were very busy on the evening we arrived. We were shown to our room in a courtyard. The room were very clean. There... More

Meeting of two family's for our sons engagement celebrated with a evening meal, considering there were over 20 people in the party the meals were well prepared with good service and excellent value. The two owners Anna and Charlie were very welcoming and made us feel really at home, it's a very local country pub with three bedrooms at the... More

Just stayed at the hotel this weekend. The pub staff are great, really friendly and helpful. Stopped here just the one night but made extremely welcome. The room was well presented and spottlessly clean. Food in the pub is great and very well priced. I would definately recommend this pub / hotel and will certainly stop there again when in... More

Its more years than I care to remember since I visited this pub & was slightly apprehensive when my husband told me we were meeting friends there but my concerns were unfounded. We enjoyed a good meal, I chose from the specials menu & the homemade ice cream was more than enough to support a return visit. Our ony negative... More

Having lived in Stanford many years ago, we were dismayed to find out 'local' had closed down. So, with many reservations, we ventured into the Horse and Jockey for lunch. What a surprise! Whilst it may not be 'The Anchor' of old, if we still lived in the village, it would now be our 'local'. The welcome was warm, the... More

A pub with character and charm. Stayed here this week end whilst visiting friends in the village. We were made very welcome, both room and bed were very comfortable. All staff were polite and helpful making sure we had everything we needed. Stayed B & B and set off home after a delicious breakfast with quality local products. Will return... More

Can only rate the dining experience as we did not stay here. We had spent time with friends who live in the village and they had booked us to come here for Sunday lunch before our return home. My daughter's chicken was blood red in places but they quickly replaced it. One slice of beef on a very big sunday... More

Thank you for your review. We were sorry that the Sunday lunch was not to your satisfaction. We can assure you that the chicken was thoroughly cooked, having been tested by a meat thermometer before serving. As I'm sure you are aware, the thigh and leg is often pink but we are always happy to replace food as per our... More

I visited this pub with my son and daughter on a Tuesday evening after deciding to try and find a local pub to have tea at which had a good menu at reasonable prices. The gentleman that took my booking was extremely polite and helpful which really raised my hopes for a good evening. We were not disapointed. The pub... More

I visited the Horse & Jockey for the first time in April this year. Ive already returned 3 times since! The food was very good - I had the calamari to start followed by the linguine. Both were perfectly cooked & seasoned and it was clear that it had all been prepared from scratch. My husband loved his steak and... More
