The word character can conjure up a number of images - sometimes it can be a euphemism for old and tired but this is not the case for the Upper Reaches. Old it is but it certainly is not tired. The hotel is at the end of Thames Street which is a left turn off Bridge Street if you are... More

This hotel flatters to decieve. Looks good until you get inside,Rooms tired. Mattress had dips and lumpy. Food very poor. Dirty and dated bathroom. Would not stay again, too many other nice hotels which are better value for money nearby.

Enjoyed our 1 night stay here. Lovely position next to the Thames & easy to walk around the charming town. Also easy to catch the bus to visit Oxford. The good breakfast was served in the dining room with the waterwheel turning next to our table - great to see.

This is a quaint old building by the picturesque River Thames in a historic part of Abingdon. We got a warm welcome from the receptionist and we were given room 41 on the ground floor at the back, it was nice and quiet and this part of the hotel has been renovated. The room was spacious, very nicely furnished, and the... More

This was our second visit to this hotel; we didn’t review it last time (2013) as it was peak season and in a heatwave, so the whole town was crowded and hot. This time we visited in September, and it was a far nicer experience all round. The hotel is conveniently situated, on the edge of the town centre and... More

We stayed for two nights for our anniversary weekend having made a conscious decision to splash out on a great restaurant on the Saturday night rather than spend a fortune on our accommodation. Having read the reviews I have to say that I was a little bit worried that we would be disappointed with Upper Reaches, however, our room was... More

Don't expect 5 star. Could be improved. Lovely location. Our room 31 a suite had lovely views of the Thames. The hotel has nice grounds perfect for sitting out with a drink on a warm evening. The restaurant has two water features a mill stream and a water wheel. The food was ok it gave the impression of pre prepared... More

Arrived by river for overnight stay on a hot July day. Made my way to the room which was suffocatingly hot with all the windows closed and the towel rail, not adjustable, full on. Requested a fan which we had to run all night to cool the room. There is no air conditioning in the Hotel. We had to leave... More

We stayed one night here and ate breakfast in the restaurant which had an excellent choice of dishes. The hotel is actually on an island and preserves the sight sound and smell of a working water wheel. The room was well provided with toiletries, a flat screen TV, tea tray and a comfortable bed. Just one small thing to suggest as... More
