This place could be great... We stayed in the manor it was comfortable and warm and had lots of potential. The rooms were clean and there was ample parking. The Manor is somewhat run down with old fixtures and fittings. Less quaint and more like a student house. There are lots of printed notes dotted around generally listing rules of... More

15 of us stayed at the manor house for a long weekend in November and it was perfect for what we needed. Although the decor is out dated , the manor house is truely amazing. It is absolutely massive so although we were a large party we had plenty of space and could easily lose someone in the house! The... More

We stayed in one of the cottages for a bit less than a week, earlier this month. It's a funny old place, as other reviewers have noted. Wish we had read them before we went -- we'd have known what to expect, and might not have gone at all. That would have been a pity -- we had a nice... More

The gym hasn't been updated since 1980 so don't expect much from the leisure centre. The kitchen and bathrooms need updating and the utility room needs a working tumble dryer and a washing machine with a wash cycle that runs for less than 2 hours.

My wife and I needed to stay in Northumberland with our son, his wife and our granddaughter. We stayed at Akeld some 20 years ago and tried a booking at late notice. We stayed in Blueberry Cottage and found it to be very comfortable and well furnished. It is located out of town under Harehope Hill (which my son and... More

Comfortable cottage. Dated furnishings and when did you last see an avocado bathroom suite? However, it was very comfortable, peaceful and well situated for touring. The pool was only open between 10 and 5. No good if you're going out for the day and there was a charge of £32 to use it and for electricity. No Wi-Fi, no mobile... More

We stayed at Periwinkle Cottage (not a stand alone structure, but rather a unit in a one-story stone block building) for one week as part of a timeshare exchange. We found the reception staff to be very pleasant and helpful--even delivering "loaner" pool towels, when we mentioned that we hadn't brought any with us. The units are set in a... More

Situated in the middle of nowhere, not very much to do in the actual cottages area. Swimming pool was too small, but nice. Claimed the fitness facilities were free but had to pay for a couple of things. Sauna was very nice. I found it terrible how there was no wi-fi there as I was to do some work. Overall... More

I stayed in the Manor House over the New Year 2011/2012 with a group of friends. This place certainly does not live up to its four star rateing apart for the price. This trip is an annual event (not to Akeld) and we take with us our own lady cook as we go self catering. They advertise that this house is self catering... Just returned from a stunning half-term break in Northumberland staying at Akeld Manor. Location and countryside wonderful with lots to do for all the family. Akeld Manor itself is quiet and perfectly placed to explore the area. The cottage we stayed in was OK - the fittings and furniture were tired and old fashioned. The shower was only a dribble...
