My husband and I spent several nights here in the summer. After a long drive we were greeted by a member of staff who was very offhand and told us the pub was not open to us for another hour so we went for a drive until we were allowed back. Our room was nice although it had a large... More

We stayed for 1 night to visit the observatory and it exceeded our expectations. It was the little things that really made it stand out - the well stocked refreshment tray in the room (not the usual 2 of everything you find in larger establishments), being offered a choice of types of wine when I asked for a generic dry... We booked for Sunday lunch for four adults and two children. The pub was warm and welcoming in atrocious weather, and we all enjoyed our lunches - four lamb, one beef and one steak and kidney pie. My grandson is lactose intolerant and the mashed potato had butter in it so they kindly took it away and replaced it with... More

Thank you so much for leaving your review, it was a really foul day last Sunday so we were delighted so many made the trip out into the wilds for lunch. With so many allergen requirements these days we are ready for most things. Hope to see you all again. More

We are really surprised at 2 previous reviews as our experience at this country inn was great. We arrived last weekend for a two night stay and we were visiting the observatory on the 2nd evening. We had a lovely meal on the first night, mine was the grilled mixed fish and my husband had the game pie. Both meals... More

Visited this place prior to a trip to the Obsevatory. Pub is charming and everything you would expect from a cosy country pub. Very welcoming with a roaring fire to keep you warm. My critisism is the food. When we visited we were the first people in at 6pm and when we tried to order there were several items on... More

You are absolutely right this is a charming, cosy, welcoming country pub. However if I am correct you visited us in February 2014, so I am a little surprised it has taken you 12 months to leave us your review. The reason I mention this is because if you are going to have a go at us regarding price and... More

I have just read the article in the Northumbrian about the Pheasant a top prize in the Sawday's British Hotel Awards. Well done to Robin, Angela and their staff. Well deserved. Still the best menu in this area. Evelyn

Many thanks for your comments, 2014 was a great year for us and to be recognised in the prestigious " Sawday's British Hotel Awards" is a real feather in our cap. Added to that "tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence" for the third year running. We must be doing something right! More

We'd travelled for 5 hours for a night at the observatory. We arrived at 5pm. Initially we were really pleased. Lovely, old pub all lit up for Christmas. We were directed to our room. Rooms are not in the pub but in a separate building to the side. Like a motel or chalet block. It's actually a barn I think... More

Thank you for leaving us your review. I always like to find some positive from even my harshest critics but difficult in this very bruising account of your stay, save that you thought we were a lovely old pub all lit up for Christmas. I will cut to what I think has set the tone for your stay and that... More

I stayed at this hotel with my partner and son ( aged 5 ) . My brother and sister in law and their 5 year old daughter stayed also . We requested a family room and we were giving a double bed with a fold up bed which was squashed into a corner .It kept folding up during the night... More

Thank you for your review, firstly I think I should say your reservation was made by your sister in law and from the outset she was aware that we have only one family room. It was explained that we also provided fold downs in some other rooms, this happens frequently and more often at this time of year with families... More

After visiting the inn to dine many times over the past 27 years we finally got to stay the night and were not disappointed. Room (4) very comfortable, beds excellent and bathroom immaculate. Have been in a lot worse accommodation in so called 'top' hotels. Bar so traditional and cosy with gleaming brasses. Had a very enjoyable meal (sea bass... More

Stayed here overnight because of a visit to Kielder Observatory. Rooms are all in converted buildings to side of inn with pretty garden court yard. Bedroom comfortable and bathroom well fitted but both looking a little tired now as seem to have been refurbished some time ago. Food all good home made fare and excellent real ales. Staff very friendly... More
