I was looking for a romantic getaway in Northumberland and this hotel fits the bill perfectly. Set in beautiful grounds you can easily spend your time walking, on the golf course or in the bar/restaurant. Morpeth is only a short taxi ride (about £6) away wth lots of its shops, pubs and eateries. The room was £80 (for the room,... more

The old part of the outside of this hotel means it looks very nice on arrival and the grounds are fantastic. However, we were really disappointed with the size, decor and view from our room. Although the room wasn't overly expensive we did think it was quite pricey for the standard of the room. The bed was very small and... more

If you stay at this hotel I would suggest you eat in Morpeth as the restaurant was very poor. Menu looked good and food was presented well but it was cold. Service was very inadequate and our waitress appeared stressed and disorganised, this was obvious to customers. Empty plates not cleared away, not asked if we wanted wine with our... more

I have just returned from a two night stay at the Longhirst. I will start with the good things. I needed accommodation for my disabled father in law and my Mother. Having looked extensively in Northumberland the Longhirst seemed to offer good disabled facilites. I booked them into the disabled rooms and we were very pleased with the facilites. Lots... more

We spent three days here, and enjoyed ourselves. However, the room was small and the bathroom toilet roll holder was broken. There was an empty pack of Marlboroughs dropped outside the hotel entrance which remained plainly on view (to staff and guests) for all three days of our stay! Also, empty pint glasses and papers thrown by guests into the... more

I love it here, good DBB rates, yes, standard rooms are a bit small, but its cheap enough to upgrade to a superior room. The grounds and building itself are beautiful, golf club is nearby and does good Sunday lunches. The hotel restaurant has a really varied menu, packed with local produce, and isnt overpriced for the standard you get.... more

I was given a tiny room with a bathroom from the 1970's, limited tv channels (7), basic bed and furniture, and the receptionist had the cheek to ask if I wanted to eat in their restaurant - at £28 for 3 courses, no thanks ! I can't understand how this Travel Lodge accommodation got such good reviews - there's a... more

We stayed for a long weekend break. Got a really good deal on three nights, and were amazed at how good it was for the price. It's clearly mostly geared to conferences, weddings etc, but managed not to be soulless or boring. The bedrooms were small and a bit of a hike from the entrance and public rooms, but were... more

We were a party of four stopping over for 1 night on the way to Edinburgh. Hotel was excellent, staff great and very helplful. We run out of milk in the room and asked at reception if we could have some more, by the time we had walked back to the room (a matter of 5 mins) extra milk had... more

Impressive historic Country House set in lovely location. Friendly welcome and staff could not do enough throughout the weekend. Tastefully furnished but not impressive. Standard room adequate for a weekend somewhat alacking in wardrobe space. Dining room a pleasant place to eat with large groups catered for elsewhere. Nice to see a note on the extensive menu that special dietary... more
