Dec 6, 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

I fancied a week away from the city with some friends and we decided on Belford from recommendations. We decided on Market Cross as it's a 5 star guest house. I've stayed in plenty of 5 star hotels and guest houses in my time and this should be a 6 star! The room was exceptionally warm and comfortable (and huge)... more

My second visit. Thought first time couldn't be equalled. It was! Jill and John are attentive and delightful hosts. Whatever you want to do in this part of the North East, I am sure you couldn't find better. more

Just back from a golfing trip to Northumberland. The Market Cross Guest House in Belford is the best guest house I have stayed in. Great location, excellent food & nothing was too much trouble for the friendly hosts, Jill & John. Jill organised our golf (I think the deal is called “Coastal Classics”). We played Goswick, Bamburgh & Foxton Hall.... more

A lovely historic building containing warm hospitality. A room equipped with every conceivable device for a comfortable stay. Complimentary mead and liquor always available outside the room. Small but well equipped shower room but large and lovely bedroom. Door to door complimentary return transfer to a fine, extremely reasonable, local restaurant for a taste of local cuisine. The friendliest of... more

Would never normally feel the need to leave a review for a hotel/B&B but this is a different kettle of fish altogether! Not much to say really other than we stayed in the Green Room which is the basic room but you can hardly call it basic as the abundance of tea/coffee/biscuits, dressing gowns and super comfy bed are gorgeous!... more

Jill and John not only run a superb B & B, they really care about their guests and make them most welcome. My wife and I were on a four day walk, and Jill's excellent breakfast lasted us until supper time. Dr. David Etheridge and Mrs. Annette Etheridge, Solihull. more

We'd been on a business trip in the area and wanted to stay in the North of the county for an extra night - Trip Advisor came through for us again as the reviews already here are bang on the money and I'm struggling to add anything new. From the very warm welcome, the lovely Tartan Room, luxurious bathroom, sherry... more

We wanted an overnight escape and toyed with the extreme difference of a corporate chain hotelwith leisure facilities or a northumberland guest house. we decided on the guest house and are pleased that we did. Jill and John were very welcoming and it is really evident that they have put a lot of effort into every last attention to detail.... more

We stayed for 3 nights recently and found the hospitality and attention to detail that Jill and John provided to be fully deserving of their 5 star rating and numerous awards, The breakfasts were fantastic with a great range of dishes on offer and our room was spacious and very comfortable. We would definately recommend it and we shall no... more

My wife and I have stayed at Market Cross three times now since 2006, and the experience is better each time. We love it. Jill and John are wonderful hosts, they seem to have thought of everything. The breakfasts are fantastic, but I have great difficulty trying to decide which main course to have as all the dishes, made with... more
