We stayed at a nearby B&B while walking St Oswald's Way recently, and went to the Blue Bell to find something to eat. It was packed, but everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful: we found more 'craic' on our first night in Northumberland than in 10 days walking in Ireland! We had a delicious fish pie and ended up sharing... More

we booked a discounted stay for 2 nights, close to A1 so easy access, near Lindisfarne and stunning views from St Cuthberts cave. The hotel is fine, some wear and tear in the room with an older property but this is insignificant really. Bed was comfortable and the room quiet at night so that's all that matters. They have a... A delightful and very old hotel in a superb position at the top of the street. Staff very helpful very caring and the food was fantastic. Breakfast was served swiftly with plenty of coffee/tea and toast all the time. The evening meal was just right not too much and the choice of serving yourself with the vegetables. A very good... Stayed here for a long weekend and really enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious and clean. The staff were great very friendly and helpful. Dined in the hotel food and service were superb. The breakfast was excellent, different sausages each morning. The bar has a good selection of beers and spirits for after dinner drinks and a friendly chat.... More

A very pleasant hotel in an ideal location for tourists. Our courtyard rooms were a good size and offered all that we required, and the meals were good. The hotel does need attention, we had to walk around a large nettle at the steps into the hotel, from the courtyard. The decor could be improved in the hotel. The dark... More

Wonderful old hotel situated perfectly for visiting Northumberland: you need to accept that this is an old, quaint and charming building. The staff are professional & helpful, the food is very nice & reasonably priced and although we had a few issues at check- in these were dealt with promptly. The local people were friendly and we have arranged a... More

You would never guess from the front, but the Blue Bell has a beautiful little Georgian function room/ ballroom. It is painted in buttercream yellow with a wooden floor and chandeliers, and is liscensed for weddings. Behind this is a patio large enough to place a marquee and still have outdoor tables, and behind that lawns and flowerbeds for guests... More

We spent the night after our first day of walking on St Oswald's Way here & it was wonderful. The manager was amazing, very friendly, & helpful above & beyond her duties. Her attitude was transmitted to all the staff. For example, we were all vegetarians which our booking agency had omitted to tell them in advance. There was only... More

We were a group of 6 adults and 1 child and got a table on a Sunday evening with no problems. Service was good but the food was fairly average. There was no cause for us to complain, it was just average and could have been better if they cared a bit more about the standard and appearance of the... More

This is an old and charming building spoilt because it is so tatty and badly presented. The fact that the building is old is no excuse for the terrible standard of decoration in the bedroom we stayed in. I think that whoever owns/runs this probably thinks it is ok, but really, it isn't. However it depends what your expectations are... More
