We spent the last weekend in October at Alnwick Lodge celebrating my husband's 60th Birthday with our children and twenty-one members of our extended family. We had a wonderful time! Peter and Evelyn Smith went out of their way to provide us with an ideal venue for our own house party! Alnwick Lodge is unusual because it is like a... more

Alnwick Lodge may not be to everyone's taste but we loved it! The lodge's previous incarnation as an antiques treasure trove is still very apparent and a wander through the 'showrooms' is like a trip into Aladdin's Cave! The rooms are an eclectic mix; comfortably furnished with the aforementioned antiques (all of which are for sale should you wish to... more

My partner and I booked here before checking tripadvisor, then felt really apprehensive ! People are right, it is quite hard to find and the turn in is really sharp, there is a lot of "junk" in the backyard. We stayed in the coachhouse and thought it was lovely, (I have to thoroughly disagree with previous comments) .The room is... more

Our family stayed here for one night only after visiting the lovely town of Alnwick. FIrst impressions weren't good as the entry to the Lodge was directly off the A1 with a really tight left turn - extremely dangerous with the mad English drivers on their motorways. I truly thought we had entered the wrong place as even though it... more

Im really sorry to say that i cant think of one good point about Alnwwick lodge, for the money i paid i would have expected a much higher quality accomodation, I stayed in their premier suite, the "coachmans lodge", listed as having a cast iron gas stove, which it didnt, it also didnt have a lock on the door, which... more

Not everyone's cup of tea - and certainly not ours! We thought the Lodge was not of an acceptable standard and that it was over priced. Initial impressions were that there was a junkyard at the rear of the property. However the courtyard was pretty although the garden furniture had been neglected. We were offered a welcome cup of tea... more

This B & B is located directly on the A1 and well signposted, so reasonably easy to find. Its location outside of Alnwick itself makes that you have to leave it by car if you want to do something. If you want to take a walk after dinner, this is not the place to do it. When you drive up... more

Do you like modern chain hotels? You know the sort ... every room identical, overheated, floral prints on the walls, where everything is prim proper and predictable. If you do, there is a fair chance you will not like Alnwick Lodge, just like the few negative reviews here. If on the other hand you value real hospitality, quirky but comfortable... more

I took a party of very discerning pilgrims from Kingston to Alnwick Lodge - to start a walk to Holy Island. I was absolutely amazed at the lovely welcome, the quality of the rooms, the superb home cooked food, the fascinating and querky character of the building and the rooms, and the quiet of the lodge given its location by... more

The junkyard is a most unattractive welcome to this place, but the room was far worse. We stayed here because better-rated accommodation was already fully booked. The room had no windows (just a door at the front) and needed lights on during the day. The furnishings and fittings were of either very low quality or tatty ‘antique’. This is B... more
