Dreadful place, damp and cold, supposed to be self catering, but, luckily we only stayed the night as the facilities were awful. It was supposed to be haunted, perhaps it was, but, nothing that a bit of heating would not have cured. The furniture and beds must have come from the local house clearance depot, they were "old furniishing" in... more

I was really looking forward to spending the night at Chillingham castle for over a year. The castle itself is very nice but our room was not. We both rented out the Lookout apartment for one night at $270. It was suppose to be the choice apartment. The view of the italian gardens was nice, our room was horrible. All... more

We spent one night at Chillingham Castle, in the Lookout apartment. It was quite wonderful. The castle is magnificent because it is individual and REAL - not the usual English Heritage or National Trust thing. It is independently owned, gloriously eccentric and very, very atmospheric. This is not your 5 star hotel kind of thing, it is a trip back... more

We stayed at Chillingham Castle for 2 nights this summer, and wished we had more time! it's one of the best kept secrets of Northern England.
