My sister and I travelled to Chillingham Castle and it was truly a unique and wonderful experience. Frankly I'm confused by some of the comments here. We stayed in the Lookout Apartment and there was no bad smell, plenty of hot water and the apartment was clean. It came with a small fridge that worked very well and lots of... more

It would be unfair to compare a stay at Chillingham with run-of-the-mill self-catering or B&B's as this is a different experience altogether. As others have said, furnishings are a motley collection of elderly pieces, cobwebs and dust are certainly to be found, double-glazing does not exist and I cannot comment on the effectiveness of heating as it was not necessary... more

Chillingham Castle was, until recently, a derelict property with neither roofs or floors. I remember as a child sneaking into the grounds and being amazed by the Castle, A time capsual gently erroding. Trees growing through rooms, floors collapsed but at the same time still in touch with 800 years of history. I moved down South and forgot about Chillingham... more

my husband,sister,brother-in-law and i have stayed at chillingham castle five times in the past 18 months and on every occasion we have really loved it. The reason we visited chillingham is because of its historic background and its haunting atmosphere. Our first visit was a day visit just for curiosity but when we got there and had a good look... more

Chillingham castle is a great place to stay for a nice break. It is one of the most haunted castles in England and it feels very spooky, the second night I heard footsteps on the stairs leading up from the bedroom to the lounge area. I didn't go and look I just stuck my head under the bed clothes and... more

We arrived in the evening and were shown to our apartment called "The Stable". There is a reason why The Stable was not pictured online, because it was painted four different shades of pink, had garage sale picked furniture, mold growing in the guest book, and dead insects in the sink! Not only that, but it had a terrible smell.... more

I love Chillingham castle, it is by far my favourate place in England. I have been to stay at the castle two times and in Febuary my four friends and I are booked into the Gray room for two nights for my 21st birthday. I have not yet seen any ghosts but i have felt strange things on both my... more

Me and my family stayed twice at Chillingham Castle. In Jan 04 and Jan 06. I don’t think anyone can expect to find high standard, modern furnitured, completely renovated hotel there, because it is a castle. And it is great that in Chillingham you can experience medieval atmosphere. To my opinion the in-suit shower there should be considered as complimentary... more
