Had a two night break here last week. Good room, helpful staff, excellent food (scrambled eggs and sausages to die for!) ... what more could one ask? And excellent value too. We did not know this area but found plenty to do in the vicinity. We would have no hesitation in returning for another short break.

My nephew and his bride booked this for their wedding, the service and the reception (afternoon and evening). Not sure about the package they had or prices etc but from a guest point of view we had a lovely day, the service was nice in a private upstairs room. Then we had some photographs in the grounds, still private and... More

Even though the hotel is nicely placed the service is poor. For example at dinner the staff start their preparation for breakfast by loudly clearing and setting the tables for the following morning. This seems to be so they can get away quickly after the last order. If you come to the restaurant at 9 the staff don't look too... More

Popped in for a light lunch - 20 minutes to serve the drinks - tea with dirty cups and dessert spoons because no tea spoons were clean. Asked when order would be ready - didn't know. Got up and walked out - the place felt badly managed, dirty and unwelcoming. Even the entertainment of watch a waiter spend 10 minutes... More

We attended the wedding of my niece over the bank holiday weekend and had an amazing time. The venue was fabulous, steeped in history and full of character. The actual wedding was in a building away from the main hotel so it didn't impact on other guests. Our room was fabulous - The Ashton Suite. But do mind your head... More

I was so impressed with my stay at the Talbot. The hotel is v old but with all mod- cons. The restaurant area is most impressive and the food and service both at dinner and breakfast were excellent. Parking was easy. The reception staff very helpful and knowledgable and nothing was too much trouble. I will definitely visit again.

There was a mix up with the booking my friend made for our stay but the Talbot solved the problem and gave us alternative accommodation at no additional cost. The room I stayed in, the Ashton Suite was beautiful. This is a gem of a hotel, and having the opportunity to stay in such an old and historic building was... More

We were very well looked after by reception when we arrived, the bar staff on duty who arranged a table in the restaurant, and the staff who served our meals. We met the lovely Suzie who made us feel at home and we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at the Talbot. We were visiting Rutland Waters on Saturday and the... More

Although we only booked the hotel for one night for a short break, we both now wish we had booked for at least another night or two. We both thought the hotel was absolutely beautiful, and the breakfast first class. We also booked a table for an evening meal and once again were so pleased that we did; it was... More

We have visited The Talbot twice and I am sure we will be back soon. We live about an hour away so it is an ideal location for a short break. We love the hotel as it is so well run but also very friendly and the staff are always happy to help. The rooms are clean and comfortable and... More
